Au programme

First we cup and taste 2 different types of coffees, prepared 2 different ways: espresso and V60, or V60 and French press. This will allow you to get acquainted with each method, and learn the differences between each and their impact on taste, clarity, drink strength.
Then we will learn about the origin of the coffees we have in our roastery, and learn about the different roast profiles (light, medium, dark), and the density of each bean type. We will learn what chemical reactions occur during the roasting, and their impact on the taste of the coffee beans, depending on the profile roast: acidity, sweetness, bitterness.
Finally, we will roast 2 batches of coffee, visualise the roast from start to finish, from green to roasted bean, and see how it develops from a grassy to nutty caramel flavour.
This whole 3 step process will last about 2h-2h30 hours.

This inroduction course on coffee roasting is done with very small groups of max 2 people, so you can enjoy the most of a hands-on experience.

Hello, I am Sebastien, the Head Master Roaster & Owner at R&B Cafe, a unique micro-roastery in the centre of Ljubljana.
After living in Paris, Detroit, London, Nashville, my family and I decided to establish our roasting business in Ljubljana. Like wine and beer, coffee comes from a crop, which has many tastes according to the terroir, the climate and the farmer who cultivated it. Our roastery and coffee shop offers 7 unique specialty coffees from around the world: Kenya, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Cuba, Colombia, Brazil and even Australian coffee (and we are the only ones in Slovenia to offer Australian Skybury). We roasts our beans weekly to bring out the best of their unique flavour: floral, fruity, chocolaty, there is a world to discover in this little bean. We love to share our roasting technique with friends and customers!

Le lieu

The experience takes place in our roastery and coffee shop located Slovenska Cesta 47, 1000 Ljubljana. This is Ljubljana main North to South avenue, and we are located about 100 metres south from the InterContinental hotel, next to Hotel Centre and next to the Ljubljana Public Library.

I booked this for my sister-in-law. She was so happy with the whole experience as she had never tried so many different types of coffee (cold brew, expresso, macchiato, late macchiato, French press, V60 coffee) She also got to roast three types of coffee (Kenia, Guatemala Antigua and Ethiopia). Thank you, Sebastien, for providing such a nice experience for her!

Very personal and informative experience that I can definitely recommend. Sebastien knows A LOT about coffee and was able to explain the whole process - from harvesting to roasting, grinding and drinking - with great detail but also in a very accessible way. He tailored our time together based on our level of knowledge, our interests, and our tastes. We tried multiple kinds of beans in different styles (espresso, French press, etc) and roasted beans, as well. We learned so much we would have loved a handout to take with us to be sure we remembered everything. If you're interested in or enthusiastic about coffee, you should check this out (or at a minimum, stop by R&B for a delicious cup of coffee).
