A lovely (and large) bedroom in a beautifully appointed home in the best area of Chicago. Close to the lake, transit, exciting nighlife....not to mention complete with an overly friendly cat named Angus and a rather outgoing host
If you choose to stay with us, you give to experience something that straddles the lines of a little too perfect, a little too quirky, a little too posh, and a little too Martha Stewart. The flat is in a creeky-old, yet very typical, Chicago building. It is on the 8 step elevated ground floor and is blessed with broad expanses of windows that face into a courtyard.
Our home was once four separate apartments that have been stitched together. Each retains all of it's original character and is a mix of modern elements introduced into the vintage building. This bedroom is about 15' by 15' with a wall of windows and is what would be the formal 'dining room' for one of the flats. It comes complete with original built-ins and beautifully painted woodwork and walls. The room is entered by a pair of French doors that have had the glass obscured for privacy. It includes a full size (a bit smaller than a queen, ok for two normal sized people) four poster bed, great linens, and really lovely curtains.
It is commonly home to one friendly young black cat, well groomed, who may or may not be present depending on the whims of the guest.
The ambiance of the flat is something else entirely. The space is filled with beautifully painted serene rooms that are home to a well curated collection of French and American furniture from the 1940s to the 1970s. A rotating collection of modern 20th century fine art and pottery keeps the rooms fresh and interesting. One note about the furnishings; folks who are terribly allergic to wool or adverse to cow hides and taxidermy will find the interior stuffed with enough wool kilims, mohair upholstered things, and fuzzy animal hides to perhaps be uncomforatble.
Host A self admitted gay fellow and is a white collar professional with perfect taste, a stellar sense of purpose, and a writing style / sense of humor that can only be described as unique and self assured. If you need cultural information or any product that is home related, he is the guy to turn to. Hosts B, and C are three more happy gay fellows, all in their early to late 20s and white collar professionals.
Accès des voyageurs
The basics of the flat include two proper baths, living room with TV and comfy sofa, a real kitchen, a cocktail kitchen, a dining room, and lots of room to spread out in the lower level as needed. Wifi is everywhere.
If needed, guests can have access to professional cooking appliances (8 burner stove, Subzero fridge, Dornbracht fittings) and a dining room that comfortably seats 6 to 8 people around a modern table.
Their are other airbnb rooms that share the space, including one the shares the immediate bath. Let me know if you need to book multiple rooms.
Parking in the area is permit only, so guests are not able to park on the street. There is paid public parking about a block away (costs vary depending on the dates) and there is also a great site called spot hero that will let you pre book area parking for lower costs.

Common sense abounds. Tidy up after yourself, don't track in unspeakable things on your shoes, coasters under sweaty glasses on wood surfaces, and attempt to not hula hoop whilst showering. It is an old building, so noise will travel up to the neighbors (URL HIDDEN) keep the TV at a normal level, try to not shout into your mobile, and (much as we do think they are adorable) this is not a child appropriate dwelling. You are welcomed to use the kitchen (goodness knows we don't) and even entertain...we just ask that you return everything to it's tidy state when you are done.
In a nutshell, I am a fun 30s fellow who lives in Chicago and does high end interior design work.
I have always been interested in showing hospitality to others. Before airbnb this was mostly done by inviting friends and others over to my home for dinner or cocktails....but I find it equally rewarding to be able to host a traveler and know that my home with influence their trip for the better.
As I am getting older I have decided that I really want to travel and see more of the world...but limited finances (coupled with my refusal to sit int he back of planes) as well as a desire to really get to see how people live and just not how tourists are treated makes this a great option for me!
I have quite a few different interests, but I am very into anything design related (architecture, shops, urban life) and am an avid collector of mid century furnishings and love modern art from around 1910 to 1960. I am happy to have one black cat (I like cat's but one is just enough to keep it interesting) and love to entertain friends often. I am also a sucker for British TV, and you will often find BBC America in the background.
I was lucky enough to have the New York Times recently devote two entire pages to me in their home section, making me sound much more interesting in print as compared with in reality and publishing some lovely pictures of my life.
Oh, and my favorite color is that of a wet seal.....greenish gray and shiny!
