Excellent piece of Texas heaven. Wonderful home located in Terlingua with a view of the Chisos Mountain range in Big Bend National Park. Very comfortable, cozy and clean. We were very happy with our choice and would definitely return in a heartbeat.

The view at the Leaping Lizard is absolutely incredible and we really enjoyed that part of our stay. Having said that, I feel that the price is a bit high for what you receive as it is basically a step up from camping and there are some issues. There was a bad smell emanating fro…

Erin seemed like a nice person, but has some growing up to do. She most certainly was not responsible or considerate of the property. The odor she mentions was coming from a propane tank outside the building, which gives off a garlicky smell when the tank is low (it's an additive meant as a safety precaution) which it unfortunately was during her stay. Use of the incinerating toilet is clearly explained in my listing, and though it is mostly meant for solid waste it CAN handle some liquid. I do encourage guests to pee in the great outdoors, but at no time do I say it's a requirement. It's just a suggestion for those who are willing. I VERY CLEARLY explain more than once in my listing, and in my house rules, that water is precious on a rain catchment system, and being careful to close valves is of utmost importance. I also show them in person that clockwise closes everything. It just isn't that complicated if a person is paying the least bit of attention. As for 'scolding' Erin for a 'small drip', which was not small, I did not even discover the problem until these guests were long gone. I wrote her a polite note to find out how long the valve had been left open, so I could figure out how much water was needlessly lost down the drain, and told her I would be getting an estimate for the door repair. She did not even bother to reply. I still don't understand how these folks broke my door, but in fairness, I only asked her for a partial amount of what it cost me to have it fixed. She refused payment, so I submitted photos if the damage to Airbnb, who charged Erin the partial reimbursement out if my damage deposit. It's just a shame that she didn't take responsibility to begin with. Most all of my guests are terrific folks, but occasionally someone comes along who is just not yet capable of being considerate and mindful.

We loved everything about our stay here. It’s a magical place! Great location, close to the park, ghost town and tour companies in Terlingua. Can’t wait to come back!

No outdoor bed, rough road to rental. We ended up leaving a day early.

The house is thoroughly cleaned between each guest, including disinfectant wipes used on every frequently touched surface. The odor Randy mentioned was more than likely from a gas water heater, which gives off a slight odor when the tank is getting low. The outdoor bed was removed from my listing months ago, and in any case, guests rarely wanted to use it during the winter months. Apparently Randy, instead of being honest about the issues he had with my place, fabricated a family emergency as their reason to leave early. Also, every part of the rental is shown in my photographs; spaciousness is never implied, and I have no control over what a potential guest imagines beyond the photos. The house has two rooms entered by separate exterior doors, plus an adobe outbuilding that houses the bathroom. separate rooms, It has scads of outdoor living space, including a porch oriented to a view of the national park, an outside kitchen, and a roomy outdoor shower. There's miles of seclusion and privacy around the rental. On top of these things, they left the heater burning, the door ajar, and trash and food in Styrofoam containers on the floor inside. I would have overlooked those problems and hosted them again, but have changed my mind, considering the dishonesty about leaving due to an emergency.
