Small but perfectly formed Pry House Farm Shepherd's Hut sits in a traditional hay meadow surrounded by magnificent scenery, vast open spaces and unbroken skies. Your Hut-in-the-Hills is truely a get-away-from-it-all experience.
The day bed converts into a 5ft double bed. Sleep like a shepherd with wool duvet & pillows made from British wool. Your Shepherd's Hut package includes a 'Yorkshire' continental breakfast. Outdoor seating and outside loo, handbasin & hot water. Wifi close by.

Le logement
Idyllic for solo travellers and couples alike. A stay in our Shepherd's Hut is a 'glamping-on-wheels' experience!
Would you like to wake up to the call of the curlew or lapwing?
Would you like to take breakfast in a tradional flower rich hay meadow?
Would you like to gaze at the stars in an inky black sky?
Then weather and season permitting Pry House Hut-in-the-Hills is the place for you.
Wifi a few yards away, near the house but not in the Shepherd's Hut
Strictly no cooking in the Shepherd's Hut. Barbeques by prior arrangement (there are times of year e.g. hay time or at other times if it is very dry that we cannot allow fires of any description).
Plenty of superb walks straight from the steps of the Shepherd's Hut.
Downside - for most people a car is essential, to get here and to go off in the evenings for something to eat. For keen cyclists it is possible to catch the train to Kirkby Stephen and cycle from there (approx 11 miles, one very steep climb)

Accès des voyageurs
The Shepherd's Hut stands in the field adjacent to the farmhouse. The toilet with hand basin & hot water is approx. 12 metres from the hut. Guests have access to a small fridge to keep the milk cool and a couple of bottles too! Clean drinking water is provided.

Autres remarques
Please note that bedding is supplied but not personal towels. Please ask for single person discount.
During your stay we would like to guarentee 100% peace & quiet which comes in abundance at no extra charge! However we are a working hill farm where sheep bleat, dogs bark and tractors brum! Our farming and our livestock come first and we make no excuse for that therefore at some times of year there will be farm noises.
This is what a recent guest had to say "Quite simply one of the most beautiful places I've stayed. Its been exactly what I'd hoped for; peaceful, real quiet, nature, no technology and fantastic walks. The sky at night has been mind blowing - so many stars. The dark skies and complete stillness is something I will really miss. I want to stay! Glenda, you have been the perfect host, thank you so much".

Swaledale is often referred to as the forgotten dale. It is quiet and unspoilt with vast areas of rugged, untamed landscape. Pry House Farm stands proudly at the head of the dale surrounded by majestic scenery, huge unbroken skies and an abundance of wildlife to observe and enjoy. If you would like to wake up to the call of the curlew or lapwing. If you would like to breakfast in a traditional hay meadow. If you would like to gaze at the stars in an inky sky then our Hut-in-the-Hills is the place for you.

Farmer's wife, B&B host, holiday cottage proprietor and proud owner of a cute-as-could-be Shepherd's Hut. Farming is a 24/7 lifestyle meaning we don't get away very often so by sharing my Shepherd's Hut and welcoming B&B guests into our home, the world comes to us. I write a blog so that we can share with others what's happening on the farm and what is going on around us in this beautiful landscape of Upper Swaledale. I love the untamed ruggedness and wide open spaces surrounding where I live. Its vast and its peaceful but its teaming with life; birds, insects, tiny mammals, wild flowers, wind & weather. Come and experience it for yourself even if its only for a short time - you will love it too.

Pendant votre séjour
We are happy to share our knowledge of the area and our farming experiences, as well as our home, with our guests. Depending on the season there is lots to see on the farm, although, sorry but we can't make any guarantees.
Lambing time April / May - feed a lamb or if you are lucky, see one born.
Clipping time August - see the sheep being sheared.
Hay time July / August - we still make small bale hay, the scent is heavenly.
All year round the sheep need gathering in - see them being gathered on the fell or driven along the road by farmer & dog.
Ask us about the field barns, the miles & miles of dry stone walling, the Swaledale sheep, the landscape, our way of life - we are always glad to help.
The meadows & pastureland surrounding the Shepherds Hut are home to dozens of ground nesting birds; Lapwing, Curlew, Redshank, Oyster Catchers, Skylark to name but a few. The Shepherd's Hut makes an ideal 'hide' to observe the birds particularly late afternoon & early evening when they come looking for food.

Pry House Farm is situated 2 miles west of the tiny hamlet of Keld in Upper Swaledale. Keld has a tearoom, Information Centre & small hotel, Keld Lodge with excellent restaurant.
Beautiful and unspoilt, Keld is on the crossroads of two major long distance walks; Coast to Coast & Pennine Way.
There are lots of cycle routes both on & off-road some a mere 2 miles from the 2014 Tour de France route.
Keld has the highest concentration of waterfalls in England.
During 19c lead mining was the main industry of the area. There are still remains of lead mining times to be discovered.
Tan Hill Inn, 5 miles away, is the highest pub in England.
Lots of good, traditional pubs, tearooms and other quality eating places very close by.

Car essential when staying in Upper Swaledale unless, of course, you are a long distance walker and arriving on foot!
There is no public transport to Pry House Farm. The local community bus service comes to Keld twice a day. For timetable Google Little White Bus Swaledale

Being married to a farmer means Chris & I have little spare time however we both have our hobbies; Chris has two vintage tractors and I make proddy rugs and other articles using the traditional proddy & hooky methods.
