Situated at 4,100 feet, our 2 bedroom home feels like a well-traveled grandma's mountain retreat. Great views from large covered porch and from the spacious kitchen and living area. Extremely quiet but close to town.
This early 1960s cabin was built as a summer home then stood neglected for years until we bought it with some friends and lovingly restored it. We are dog lovers ourselves who enjoy traveling with our pets so we welcome you to bring yours along, just tell us. A reasonable pet fee is charged. The floors are hardwood except in the kitchen and bathroom. There is no dishwasher (except for you or your kids!) and the shower is a stall and not a tub/shower. We DO have wifi.
Accès des voyageurs
This house has two levels. The top level is the living area that you are renting. The basement level is where you will find the laundry area. The two levels are NOT connected by interior stairs. You can drive to the upper level, which is easiest for unloading and loading. We own 3.5 acres with this cabin and there are trails and small roads to hike from here. We are less than 15 minutes to downtown Boone and there is a super market 10 minutes away.

We live on this same road but nearly a mile away. We are usually around and see our guests coming and going but do not intrude unless asked to stop by; we are easily available if there are any issues to resolve at the cabin.
We generally add a $40 cleaning fee and take a fully refundable $100 security deposit for first-time guests.
We expect our guests to treat this cabin as if it were their own home. We expect guests with dogs to clean up after their dogs. We also ask our guests to start the sheets and towels in the laundry before they leave. Absolutely no smoking inside the cabin. Clean the kitchen of your dirty dishes, pots and pans, and put the trash outside in the large trash can. We recycle and provide a bin for that as well. If you are staying for an extended period we will arrange to pick up your trash periodically.
Proud to be a native North Carolina girl but I've traveled around the world a bit, thanks in part to my former life as a newspaper writer, a job I left when I had my one and only child who is now a young adult living in Ohio. My husband is a retired newspaper photographer and we've been living the simple life since leaving S. Florida 12 years ago. We have been renting to vacationers for 10 years, three using airbnb. We live close to our Boone rentals so we're usually around in the unlikely event something needs our attention during your visit. We've put a lot of ourselves into the interior decor of our houses, including our new one in Tarpon Springs, Florida. You'll feel like you know us once you stay with us!
I am a Duke grad and fan. I practice yoga. I am a vegetarian as of 1976. I sing with a community chorus in the North Mecklenburg area. I love music, from old time to opera. And I travel. Scotland is my favorite place.
