Unusual event space available.
MonkeyBottom Collaborative is an active studio, well known in the creative durham community. it is located in the funky Old West Durham neighborhood, near Duke campus and ninth street. Part of our building (a decade ago the "Wild Bull's Pizza") is host to local artisans: the rest is available community space. We've hosted artists, craftsmen, theater groups, dancers, musicians for jams and performances , classes, funky weddings, clothing exchange parties, art parties, temporary retail, showers... a plethora of events. We are open to many permutations : you may make this space what you wish it to be.
The space consists of two adjoining rooms ( for those of you who have been here before, we have doubled in size, taking over the former welding studio) is about 1500 sf, with large windows on one side, a stage set into the opposite wall of one room (please see photos with descriptions)gallery-style ceilings and walls, terrazzo floors, a bathroom and a small kitchenette. there is an overhanging awning over the entire length of the building in front, and a small, lovely garden with a firepit outside. ample parking, easy access to highways.
we would prefer to meet folks physically beforehand if possible, and would need solid references.
A note on alcohol laws:
we do not have a liquor license, so you cannot have liquor at your event, only wine and beer. Also, if you plan to have an event with an admission fee, your guests may byo wine and beer, but the host may not provide it. And, no alcohol may be sold at your event.
you may see more info re past events by looking at our page on a certain popular social media site.
there are two small futons in the space, and one could sleep here as well, if desired. however, there is no hot water, and no shower or bath.
Fifty to sixty people would likely be about the maximum one would wish to host in this space
