Our petit maison is a recently-converted small barn, nestled on the edge of the tiny picturesque village of St Jean de Paracol in the "Cathar District" of the Languedoc Roussillon region in the south of France. The house has an open-plan "rustic-modern" design on two levels, with living, dining and kitchen area upstairs, and sleeping quarters and bathroom downstairs.
The kitchen/dining area is fully equipped with a 5-burner Italian (Glem) stove and oven, a dining table that seats 6-8 people, an industrial-style counter with 3 stools, small dishwasher and fridge plus all culinary condiments, utensils and crockery in a rustic-modern style, and plenty of cooking equipment (including a grain grinder and a waffle maker).
The back door opens out onto a private back yard with a wide wooden deck, outdoor table and chairs and two loungers. Beyond the deck is a grassy lawn and surrounding flower gardens, a large cherry tree (which fruits abundantly in Spring), with hammocks and a small tree-house platform. To the west a line of poplar trees bring the soothing rustle of leaves with the wind, and shade on hot days. Beyond the poplar trees is a wild garden, a trickling stream and a somewhat impenetrable bird-filled forest.
Downstairs, a queen-sized master bed and single/twin (with pull-out trundle bed) in the open-plan bedroom can sleep up to four (ideal for a family with one or two children). Upstairs the sofa bed sleeps an extra two people. In the summer additional cabana and "glamping-style" sleeping quarters are available on the deck in the back garden.
We have camping equipment available for a couple or 3-person family camping excursion, 3 bicycles, local terrain/hiking maps, an intriguing library with inspiring books about the area, and yoga equipment for two people.
We also supply a list of local personalities in the neighborhood, services, attractions and adventures.
