We are sorry that you experienced such bad weather conditions during your stay. This is quite unusual for this time of year, as we are still in the ‘green season’, which typically has light afternoon showers, but plenty of sunny mornings. These heavy rains were due to a tropical storm elsewhere in the country.
Kubla Khan is situated along 150 metres of the Chirripo River. Our listing states: “Easy river access to waterfalls, swimming holes and private sunbathing rocks, right in front of property.”
Our guests are normally able to bath and even swim in the river until much later in the year, and, as I explained, the river tends to drop and become much calmer once the weather improves, as it did on the day of your early departure.
We do, however, warn our guests in our house manual, to take great care when accessing the river during the rainy season, as a flowing mountain river will certainly rise and may become unsuitable and dangerous for bathing after heavy rains, especially for young children. We apologise if this seems inaccurately portrayed in our listing, but we maintain that the weather is something that is out of our control.
We are surprised to hear you say that the house was not clean, as this is something that we pride ourselves on as Airbnb Superhosts (see our 5* ratings on cleanliness). We have taken your comments on board and have asked the maid to be extra thorough the next time she cleans.
Kubla Khan is designed with minimal overhead lighting, other than in the kitchen and bathroom areas, as we like to create a cozy and warm atmosphere, with the use of floor lamps. This tends to accentuate the natural wooden beams and structure of the house.
We are sorry that you weren't able to enjoy our mountain paradise, but hope that you had better weather for the rest of your vacation.
