Mountain Top retreat in a natural rhododendron and azelea garden on 100 acres with spectacular views of three states. Spectacular spring blooms and wonderful leaf viewing in the fall. Borders and overlooks the 4,800 acre Channels State Forest. The Clinch Mountain Hiking Trail crosses the property, with access to the Channels, a unique rock formation on top of Clinch Mountain that is a popular hiking destination. The property is listed on the Virginia Birding and wildlife trail, with abundant wildlife and excellent birding. Raven Ridge is located just off the Trans America 76 cross county bike route. The Lodge has two bedrooms with queen beds and a couch that converts to a full bed in the living area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a six burner deluxe range. The marble tiled bath includes a claw foot bathtub. There is an outside hot tub available for soaking under the stars. Heat is provided by a soapstone wood stove with glass doors. Numerous porches are great for viewing the scenery or just lounging around. Although the property has a Saltville address, it is actually located north of the town of Abingdon, and southwest of Lebanon. Please note that in case of light snow, a four wheel drive vehicle is recommended for access. Arrangements can also be made for me to ferry you to the lodge in my truck, if need be. If there is a heavy snow (more than a couple of inches), access may not be possible. We don't get a lot of snow, but it is always possible in the winter months. All that being said, Raven Ridge is incredibly beautiful in the snow. There is a two night minimum stay. Sorry, pets are not allowed at Raven Ridge, due to the allergies of some of my guests. Although my standard check in time is after 3 PM, I can sometimes accommodate earlier check in. depending on my schedule. Late checkout may be available as well. .
  • An absolutely perfect mountain retreat. The cabin is very remote, which is exactly what we needed, although we did get snowed in for a day. The kitchen was well-stocked, the house was clean, the wood stove was warm and the view were absolutely breathtaking. We want to come back to visit every season of the year. The drive from Abingdon isn't too far. And of course, we recommend that EVERYONE visit the Harvest Table in Meadowview for Sunday brunch!

  • Our stay at the Raven Ridge Lodge was nothing short of fantastic. The place is even better than we imagined, and the views are exactly as described - spectacular! We were glad that Bill met us at the entrance to take us up to the lodge the first time, since it is certainly remote being located at the very top of a mountain. Bill did everything to ensure we had a pleasant stay and recommended a couple great hikes as well. We will certainly be back in the future!

    Luke2015-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • This property is absolutely incredible! Everything in the home was orderly and had all the amenities you would find in a hotel right down to the Mini shampoos. The property is hidden away at the top of a mountain, and there are several hiking trails for you outdoors enthusiasts. Bill was an excellent, excellent host! He provided all the necessities of a home and then some. While he is accessible if needed he leaves you to enjoy the serenity of the property and its incredible views. I have already been away too long and am longing to return! Thanks Bill !!!

    Alex2016-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Bill made us feel quite welcome. The cabin is beautiful, and it is a beautiful spot on top of the ridge.

    Kelly2015-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The place was exactly as billed and more. Bill responded quickly and gave great directions. I would love to come back again.

  • It seemed like it took forever to get up the mountain to Raven Ridge but it was so much fun once we got there! I'd recommend 4wd if you can but my 2wd did fine. It took us 35 mins or so to get up from 81. The cabin is fully stocked with linens, plenty of pillows and blankets, and everything you need for the kitchen. We brought more than enough food and grilled a lot on the included gas grill too. When we had problems with the grill, Bill came right on up to fix it and even brought a second grill just in case, setting it up for us. I loved sleeping listening to the rustling leaves and breeze blowing over the mountain. And the hot tub too. And my 3yo sold loved his first taste of s'mores. :) We got 4 generations together and it was lovely.

  • Our family trip across the country involved staying one night at the Raven Ridge lodge. This was much the adventure and deserved a second or third night! The trip up to the place was an event in and unto itself for flatlanders like us. The many switchbacks and narrow, steep climb and descent was fun and a little harrowing. The lodge is well done and very comfortable - quality furnishings with excellent bedding. The hot tub was a wonderful evening treat. The owner was helpful and supportive without being nosy. Great referrals for excellent dining in the area. All in all it was great. Definitely recommend coming up the front/South side of the ridge - the roads are much better kept than the roads leading from Lebanon.

  • Great stay. Everything was perfectly as described. The host, William, gave very clear directions to the house, and was very helpful in meeting us and showing us up the mountain. The place was not too modern but not too rustic. Overall, perfect place for a relaxing weekend getaway!

  • Easily the best Airbnb I’ve ever stayed at. We wish we could’ve stayed longer! It is cozy and clean with incredible hosts. We will be back!

    Kimberly2018-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Cynthia was a wonderful hostess who made our stay extra special with her hospitality! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and feeding her alpacas was a special treat! A wonderful, unique experience!

    Lauren2018-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a dreamy adventure for architecture buffs and those looking to have a farm experience without having to drive to far off the highway. Easy location. The restoration of the building has a very creative approach which was a delight. The owners are as friendly as you could ask for. Alpacas are adorable, even the animals greet you with kindness.

    Tracy2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • My favorite airbnb so far! Cynthia had an unexpected family emergency the morning of our arrival, but still met us at the door with a smile on her face! Their home is an absolute piece of Heaven on earth. The room provides all that is needed for a great rest and the hot tub experience could be it's own airbnb! We had an absolutely wonderful stay and will return.

    holly2017-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Words do not begin to describe what a perfect visit this was, for starters, putting into words the ideal marriage of rustic and state-of-The-art modernity that was the living space . The owners have converted their barn into a modernized cabin with excruciating detail , from the tiling in the bathroom to the hand cut wood in the living room. The amenities are new and luxurious . As to the overall experience , They welcomed us with a warm meal and drink and went to every length to make sure our stay was perfect on New Year's Eve . We have never felt so at home . We ate breakfast with the family and enjoyed a personal experience with the alpacas on the farm, all while chatting with Cynthia warmly about her home and interests . This is the best air Bnb experience I've ever had

    Spencer Grace2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cynthia’s home was stunning. The view of the Appalachian trail and mountains behind her home were breathtaking. Do t forget your bathing suit so you can sit in their beautiful hot tub to look at the stars at night!

This is a nice little cabin nestled at the edge of the woods off highway 16 in Sugar Grove Virginia. There is a covered open outside fireplace area. Appalachian Trail is just up the road.
Guest have access to 50 plus acres and pond and various seating areas with fire pits and wood supplied to guests. There is also a covered area at the lookout with an eating area looking out over the valley, our million dollar view. Has fire pit and gas grill.
Lots of stuff to do on the way to where you are headed.
  • We had a wonderful time at the cabin, using the fireplace area and exploring the trails in the snow. Thanks, Lee!

    Maya2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay there was comfortable, relaxing, perfectly enjoyable. We loved the setting, took a hike around the property and soaked up its incredible beauty. The cabin was CLEAN, cozy, private, quiet, small but lacking nothing. We enjoyed a fire in the downstairs outdoor fire place - perfect for the chilly night. Also, the place stayed comfortable throughout our stay on spite of the unually chilly temperatures. We met out host when we first arrived and he showed us around, and that was the only time we saw him - had no issues requiring his attention. Location wise it was a good choice - we did the Creeper Trail before getting to the cabin, and then the next two days we were able to explore around Sugar Grove. If we take another trip to that area we will definitely check out the availability of this place first.

  • Great place in a beautiful area

    Will2016-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is like being in a tree house, as you see only the tops of trees in the picture windows. Beautiful views of the valley and forest, and the cabin is indeed cozy with everything you need for a quiet weekend. We hiked the trails on the property over to the pond. The cabin had lots of nice little touches, and was very well-built and maintained.

    Kevin 2015-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place. Perfect getaway to disconnect from everything, and everyone.

    Agustin2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Nice "tiny house" style secluded cabin. Good for a base of operations for exploring the area.

    Mel2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Everything with Kozy Cabin was fantastic! We very much appreciated the wonderful space! Lee was straightforward and a pleasure to coordinate with. Definitely worth it to check out the trails behind the cabin as well! One note, we incorrectly assumed that there would be a stove and bought some things to cook. It was no problem though, Lee had left us some great dinner recommendations in the area.

    Alexander2015-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect getaway. Comfortable, clean, nice views, great hiking. Fireplace area was really, really special. Lee was exactly the kind of host I appreciate. Responsive, easy going, not intrusive. If looking for nice cabin - this is great choice.

FLY FISHERMAN'S PARADISE. This is a restored home on the South Fork of the Holston River, with direct river access. The South Fork is one of the TOP 100 TROUT STREAMS IN ALL OF NORTH AMERICA. This home is close to "Rocking" Marion, Virginia, nightlife, craft breweries, great local restaurants.
  • Everything that we needed during our stay close to family. Beautiful surroundings and comfortable sleeping.

    Katie2017-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, peaceful location on a beautiful creek. Our family enjoyed the little town of Marion, as well as nearby Abingdon, where we rode bikes on the Virginia Creeper trail. Our daughters bought inner tubes at the nearby Dollar Store and floated down the river and had a blast. We enjoyed the Hungry Mother Park nearby, and some of our family did the zip line course there. The restaurant at the park has a delicious salad bar. We were surprised the doors to the bedrooms were glass, which meant everyone had to go to bed at the same time. We enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch in the morning. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at A River Runs Through it. Thanks Richard!

    Sharon2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Richard was very communicative before and during our stay. This well appointed and comfortable three-bedroom house is located in a quiet neighborhood with a small river running along side, but not viewed. A pleasant porch with rockers, wood stove insert in the fire- place, provides harmony and tranquility.

    Esperanza2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had to evacuate Charleston due to Hurricane Matthew and found this listing late Thursday night. Richard responded to my request immediately and answered all of my questions withing minutes. We were able to depart that evening and check-in super early at 5:30am. The property was exactly as described and some. An absolutely beautiful property with plenty of room for our dogs to roam. The river runs along the length of the property and my favorite part of the stay was relaxing on the porch listening to the birds chirping and water running down the stream. Extremely relaxing considering a hurricane was possibly destroying our home. Everything you need is in the home we loved the cast iron skillets. They made sure we had everything we needed and contacted us daily to make sure things were going smoothly also to see if we needed anything. Wonderful hosts and will be happy to stay at one of their properties in the future! THANK YOU

    Paul2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • We were mostly gone during our stay as this is my fiancé's home area, but we enjoyed our stay and loved having a great place to lay our heads at night. Richard was friendly and is apparently quite the angler!

  • Great place to stay. It's a very comfortable house and in a beautiful location.

  • This is a "field of dreams" home where the owner converted a medical office building into a Sufi lodge. It is located in a secluded mountainous area with very few facilities nearby. I would recommend for I get away or anyone who wants to get close to Mount Rogers .

    elizabeth2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here while riding the Trans Am bicycle trail across the country. This was a great alternative to the Hiker Hostel, which was filled with AT thru hikers. The hosts are very friendly, and its is fun seeing them convert an old medical building into a refuge for hikers and cyclists.

    Doug2017-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • OK for after a day hiking the Mount Rogers Area. Very quite at night. Easy access to Mount Rogers, and the Virginia Creeper Trail.

  • The Sufi Lodge is a place of peace and spiritual connection. i found it very unique and comfortable. James and Suzanne went the extra mile to help make my business trip productive and successful. She's a great cook and they are an amazing couple with very unique life stories. They are very close to the AT (3 miles) and Mt. Rogers Park. I highly recommend staying there for an added-value life experience. I contraindicate the place for partiers!

    Miranda2017-08-21T00:00:00Z

    Jodi2017-07-16T00:00:00Z

Marion is home to the Lincoln Theatre and has many restaurants and shops. We are only minutes from Oak Hill Academy.
  • Beautiful home, the pictures don’t do it justice. Dale communicated quickly and clearly. It’s close enough to the Grayson Highlands to keep up with my recreational activities. I hope to stay again!

  • Such a wonderful find with great hosts. If I ever make it back out to this area of Virginia- which is WAAAY out there- would gladly stay again. Finding a lovely little Christmas tree and other seasonal deco was a great touch.

  • Dale is a great host; kind, great communicator, and hospitable. The home is a little old but still cozy. If you are looking for a place to stay on a trip or passing through the area, this little place will serve you well. While the home is not secluded, it is in a central location close to many great attractions. We enjoyed our time and it was great being so close to Grayson Highlands!

    Hannah2017-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Dales house is a quaint house in the small town of Troutdale. It is cosy and warm and has everything you’d need. Dale went above and beyond for us, providing some snacks/treats and having the heaters set for our late night arrival. The house is the perfect base for anyone wanting to visit the Grayson Highlands, as we did!

    Annika2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a lovely and comfortable home with great location for access to trails. Dale was extremely responsive and considerate.

    Brian2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. If you are looking for a calm, beautiful, homey, and clean place to stay, this is it. Dale and his wife were so thoughtful and we had everything we could have asked for and more. There is nothing they didn’t think of to make our stay outstanding and perfect. We could have not asked for more kind hosts. We got there at night, made dinner (they have every single utensil you would ever need, silverware, plates, even refreshments in the fridge). We slept on a cozy and warm bed, and the next morning, we woke up to beautiful views of the Mountains, made coffee and watched the snow fall on the high hills, went for a scenic ride through the beautiful Grayson Highlands Park, and sadly then had to snap back to reality. We loved this place and recommend it with no hesitation.

  • This place is awesome! If you are looking for a quiet, cozy and home-like getaway trip from busy city life, this is definitely the right spot to go. The decorations are cute (especially the watermelon themed kitchen) and it is a great experience exploring around every corner-you will always find something new! There are towns and mountain trails nearby so you will never get bored. Amelia is super nice, always replying my questions promptly and recommending fun stuff to do. We enjoyed our stay a lot!

  • We really enjoyed staying at Granny's. The house is cozy and comfortable. It felt like home! Not to mention, the surrounding area is beautiful. Amelia was attentive and made sure everything went smoothly. We would definitely stay at Granny's again.

    Hayley2015-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • I only wish I was a writer to better express my self about how we felt at Granny's! Or just stay there longer to work on a book, like telling the whole story of the house and the people who built it and live there... I've never felt more welcome to a place. It was the Best 3 days spend ever for my whole family. We travel all the time and we've been across the US. We live in a pretty peaceful and green part of the Lower East side of Manhattan but still going to Amelia's house was a complete blast. I would only say we felt like in a dream and never wanted to leave. We will absolutely come back for more and recommend this place to everyone! If you're looking for a perfect vacation just go to Granny's! Wish you all the Best, Amelia and we greatly appreciate you having us in your lovely house! THANK YOU!

The space was clean, well decorated and had everything listed on the posting. The cabin was very welcoming, enjoyably and respectfully decorated and well stocked. There were plenty of toiletries, a great portable kitchen and a cat! The cat was a happy surprise! We are cat lovers and were happy to enjoy spending time with the cat!

The check-in was very easy just down the road at Thompson Valley General Store. The cabin is new and very well constructed and has a great outdoor picnic and fireplace area. This is a great little getaway location to unwind and detach and I would highly recommend for anyone planning a trip through this area.

It sits on the south side of Iron Mountain in the Jefferson National Forest’s Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and takes in the scenic views of Whitetop Mountain and Mount Rogers. Its proximity to sites and towns of middle Appalachia, along with its fresh water, fresh air and relaxed pace make our cabin a lovely spot to visit. @uponthelaurel
Dongola Cabin is ten miles south of Interstate-81 and the town of Chilhowie, Virginia. Atlanta, Charlotte, Roanoke, Richmond, Knoxville, and Washington DC are each between two and six hours drive. Our accommodation includes high speed internet, full kitchen and laundry facilities. And, the rate includes a 5% occupancy tax for Smyth County.
Nearby, several trail heads intersect, including the well-known Appalachian and Virginia Creeper Trails (others include the Iron Mountain Trail, the Skulls Gap Trail, the Buzzard Rock Trail, the Bear Tree Gap Trail, the Straight Mountain Trail, the Straight Branch Trail, and the Pine Mountain Trail). Hundreds of wild blueberry bushes yield end-of-summer fruit on Whitetop and Pine Mountains. Steep mountain valleys and hollows display the colors of Spring and Autumn foliage. The Whitetop Laurel Creek, a notable wild trout stream, stretches for twelve miles down the valley floor and provides year-round fishing as well as five miles of fully accessible recreation facilities with wildlife viewing platforms in the Creek Junction area. Scenic and historic routes surround Dongola Cabin, including the famous Route 58 ('The Crooked Road'), Grayson Highlands State Park and Parkway, the balds at Elk Garden, and the highest elevated road in Virginia towards the peak of Whitetop Mountain. From Dongola Cabin, outdoor enthusiasts can rent bicycles and lazily (or not) ride 15 miles down the Virginia Creeper Trail to the town of Damascus, take a daylong horseback ride into Pine Mountain and Mount Rogers, or just take in the vista from Dongola Cabin's spacious front porch and vintage gliding swing.
  • Very clean and well set up/ stocked cabin. Had everything one would need for a great vacation! Very pretty mountain views! Enjoyed and would return!

  • The cabin is a great spot if you are planning on hiking White Top along the AT or surrounding trails. We brought our two pups along. We hiked, read on the front porch, and explored the local spots. Even made it to the Creeper Trail Festival! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals, including the ramps we collected on our hike. Perfect space if you want to feel alone in the woods or close to town!

  • Wife and I wanted to get away for the weekend and ended up here! It was exactly what we needed, which isn't a lot. The house gave us the exact space we needed for 2 people and the views are fantastic in the winter time (which is when we were there). If you visit in the winter and are expecting snow make sure you have a 4x4 to get up the hill to the house. Shiera & Jacob warned us about this, which was great as well. The house was very warm on some cold winter nights. All the amenities worked great (cooking supplies, coffee pot, stove, oven, wifi, etc.). The drive down/up the mountain is beautiful and the town of Chilhowie isn't that far away. We even took a day and went to Bristol, VA which was a pretty easy drive. My wife and I are looking forward to coming back in the summer time soon and bringing our dog along with us the next time!

  • What a fantastic little cabin in the woods! My husband and I loved staying here. The cabin was clean and beautiful. Shiera and Jacob were very easy to communicate with. I would highly recommend this place!

    Katie2017-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit at Jacob and Sheira's cabin. It is very quite, clean, and they respond very quickly. Once we arrived we found out Sheira and Jacob were in town visiting family. Even though they were in town they were gracious to still let us stay at their cabin! Not many people that rent out their places on air bnb will do that. I've found people will cancel reservations last minute. Thank you Sheira and Jacob for yet another great visit at your peaceful and quiet cabin. We never wanted to leave!

  • Our goal was to find a tranquil spot near Mt Rogers and this place exceeded our expectations!

    Courtney2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Immaculate space for those who want a secluded getaway. Not lacking any amenities and everything was so comfortable. We grabbed food in Damascus before heading to cabin, so it worked perfectly for us.

  • This was our first experience with Airbnb and I was a little apprehensive about the process but our hosts made this a painless process. Check in was straight forward. The cabin has great views though it is a steep driveway to reach it. I was happy that we do have an AWD. Sitting the deck watching the sunset with a cuppa was a treat. Our dog loved looking out of the patio doors. Location was perfect for all the local trails. The host's own website gave us some good tips. We did some great hikes. We loved the thoughtful little touches - shampoo and conditioner in the shower, salt and pepper in the cupboards etc Loved the crockery. The cabin is compact but completely functional for a couple plus dog. I admit I was v relieved that there was wifi since cell coverage was non existent regardless of provider. We had a wonderful stay. Wished it was longer. It was as perfect as practically possible. Highly recommend the cabin. If we are in the area again, we would definitely stay again.

The Farmhouse is adjacent to The Appalachian Trail and Jefferson National Forest. You’ll love the natural beauty of the surroundings, the luxurious comfort of the well-appointed farmhouse, and the privacy afforded by the expansive country. The Farmhouse has incredible natural light, an amazing kitchen for large gatherings of family and friends, and large decks. The area is great for biking through the country. There is a large barn, and fun hills and field to explore (the property has 50-acres).
The Farmhouse is great for family vacations, family reunions, corporate retreats and a venue for weddings.
  • I can't say enough wonderful things about our stay. If you are looking for, (or at least not opposed to), seclusion, this is the place for you. I recently stayed with my family at the farm. The kitchen was superbly appointed to cook a holiday meal for all of us with plenty of room to eat. The bedrooms and bathrooms all have a modern rustic feel, and there was plenty of room for us. The wi-fi was strong throughout the house with all of the usual gadgets connected. Dana, our host was unbelievable accommodating and quick to return messages. If you would like to experience modern conveniences with a nod to "old-world living", You will love it.

    Lester2017-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at Alex’s home. The home was immaculate and had everything we needed. I’ve never stayed at an AirBnB that had a better stocked kitchen. It’s remote, so having everything you need is very nice. We did some hiking in the back and found the App Trail on the ridge line for an added bonus. We couldn’t have been more happy!

  • Great trip thanks to a great house and wonderful host. Highly recommend this property and can’t wait to book it again!

  • The Farmhouse was a perfect setting for our family Thanksgiving. We loved seeing the cows and the back deck and front porch were awesome. Alex and Dana were great to communicate with and the welcome basket was a really nice touch.

Rocking chair front porch. Inviting, comfortable and roomy nonsmoking cottage. 4Bedrooms/2full baths.Full kitchen, dining room, cozy den, living room. Walk to local restaurants, Library, Grocery and more in this convenient small town neighborhood. Convenient to Virginia Creeper Trail. Hungry Mother Park, Grayson Highlands, Barter Theatre. No pets.
This quaint peaceful home has been our family home for over 60 years. It was built in 1913 and we've loved it since 1955. Our friends and family have always commented that they loved the house, it was just the right size, with a feel that you can't get at a hotel. We're proud to now share our wonderful home so other families can experience it.
Chilhowie is a small walkable town, and perfectly convenient along Interstate 81. It's a great place to serve as your home away from home. You can stroll to Dinner at Riverfront Cafe, El Campestra Mexican Restaurant, or several chain Restaurants. Chilhowie is centrally located for your outdoor adventures. You're 20 minutes from The Virginia Creeper Trail in either Abingdon or Damascus. And another nice "rails-to-trails" ride is the Salt Trail, 10 minutes away in Saltville. The perineal favorite State Park in Virginia, Hungry Mother State Park, is 15 minutes away, with a lake, swimming beach, rental boats, hiking, picnicking and more. Hiking at Mount Rogers and Grayson Highlands are convenient and the most direct access is from Chilhowie. And both Marion and Abingdon have thriving downtowns as well with local restaurants. And Abingdon's Barter Theatre is World Famous. Fall brings College Football, and you can choose games at Virginia Tech, Emory & Henry, or Appalachian State. And for the truly adventurous The Back of the Dragon is a 30 mile route full of curves popular with motorcycle enthusiasts.
  • This house was a perfect place for a few days in a most beautiful part of Virginia. Access to Big Tumbling Creek and the Clinch Mountain Management Area, and the Mount Rogers Recreation area, are top notch. The house is very comfortable, well furnished, extremely clean, and provisioned well for cooking meals. The amenities the owner provided .. some craft beers, the necessary condiments, et al, ... were a very nice touch not usually found in short-term rental places. The host went out of his way to be sure we were comfortable and care for, and the folks in the area were most hospitable as well, very welcoming, and providing us tips on the best fishing spots, places to dine, et al. It was like we had grown up in Chilhowie. Thanks, Sam, for being such a fine host!

  • Sam was a great host! Very clear and quick communication. The house was EXTREMELY clean and comfortable. My team of 8 (we were running the Blue Ridge Relay) felt like we had plenty of space. Definitely planning on trying to stay here next year if we run the race again. Thanks Sam!

  • This beautiful home was everything described, and much more! It was convenient to Hungry Mother State Park where our family reunion was held, and close to a grocery store and restaurants. The house was perfect for our family, and my Mom was pleased we could be together. Sam was an excellent host, with lots of suggestions and thoughtful touches that added to our stay. His communication made the process easy. This is a quiet and comfortable home that is just that, a home!

  • James cabin in the woods is absolutely beautiful. It is so peaceful and relaxing listening to the creek day and night. You can take a short hike through the woods and come right out to the New River Trail which is fantastic to walk. I can not begin to explain how Awesome the cabin really is. It is equipped with everything you would need just bring some groceries and your set. The spring water is delicious to drink and James cabin exceeded our expectations. It you love nature and wildlife this is the place for you! I love that we could open the windows and breathe in clean mountain air. We spent a week here and to be perfectly honest we did not want to leave and go back to reality. The cabin is secluded but you are only a short drive to some very quaint towns and attractions. It is very perfect for a couples getaway!

  • GREAT Rustic place !! You'll need to make sure you have 4 wheel drive and we'd suggest arrive during daylight hours. Road is rough, and a bit steep in parts. If you do arrive late you will need flashlights for sure. Its got great private view of the creek by way of a bench just below the side garden. A few nice surprises both in and out of the cabin. Worth it!

  • What a great place! I really liked the cabin and the way it was decorated. It was like stepping back in time. The claw foot bathtub reminded me of Grandmas house when I was a kid! The location is spectacular too. Situated right next to a creek with a short hike to the river. Great place to get away. Will defiantly be back.

  • James's cabin was absolutely magical. Charmingly appointed and super comfortable. We loved the babbling brook and the clawfoot tub and the completely relaxing, out of the way feeling of the place. Thank you so much for your hospitality, James, and we would really recommend this cabin for anyone looking to get a little removed from the hustle and bustle!

Treetops is our very rustic family cabin. It is inside Hungry Mother State Park and was built in the '40s. We are 5 miles from Marion, Virginia. There is a beach nearby, restaurants and dining, family-friendly activities. We love our place and think you might because of it's remote yet convenient location, the hiking and biking trails, lake and peaceful calm. This would be ideal for several couples or a large family coming to see Hokies vs Volunteers. We are 50 miles from Bristol.
  • Our party of 10 fit comfortably in the well-stocked cabin. We especially enjoyed the outdoor raised patio and screened porch areas. Tom was a generous host in providing breakfast amenities, and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals. The cabin is very conveniently located where one can enjoy all the beauty and recreation of Hungry Mother Park.

Secluded 1 BR plus loft, 2 bath log cabin, clawfoot tub, DVD player, available for rent by week or weekend. Can sleep up to 8, two separate furnished cabins. Relax in rocking chairs on front porch with amazing view of mountain valley, or canoeing/tubing on nearby New River.
The cabin and grounds are perched on a hill overlooking the Iron Mountain Range and Valley, with a view for miles. The main cabin has a bedroom with queen bed, very large bathroom with clawfoot tub and shower attachment. The second bathroom is a full bath with stall shower. Off the living room with its wood burning stove and pull-out couch is a charming loft with two twin beds. The other two small cabins (the "Cowboy" cabin and the "Writer's" cabin) can each sleep another two people. Living room has DVD player capability. Weber grill on site, small fire pit. Landline phone only; no internet. The town of Independence is about ten minutes drive; the town of Galax, with good restaurants and great bluegrass music, is about thirty minutes. Both are on the famous Crooked Trail of roots and Americana music. Reading, sunning, BBQing, canoeing, antique hunting: this is as close to heaven as we have found!
Enjoy the total quiet and the amazing stars.
  • The cabin is decorated with handmade furniture and art, the view is lovely, and we enjoyed our stay.

  • We had a great time at the Pollock cabin! We met Dave on the day we arrived, and he gave us a wonderful tour of the place before leaving. There were numerous sources of info on the table in regard to activities around the area to do. The house itself is gorgeous and we especially enjoyed the local chickens that would cluck and prance around outside. We would definitely recommend this cabin as a great way to "unplug" from the world and simply take time to relax. 5 stars!

    Chad2014-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice log style cabin with excellent modern updates that provide comfort without ruining the rustic vibe. Has a beautiful view. Made for a very fun weekend of riding the "Claw of the Dragon". FYI for my fellow motorcyclists, there is no way to get the cabin without a couple miles of gravel road. Roads are in good shape but make sure you're comfortable riding on that kind of surface before you go. The cabin is completely worth getting the bike a little dusty.

  • I love airbnb and this was probably the best find yet. Cabin and area is even better than advertised and hosts were great. Dale is a professor of Film at the NC school of the arts and Susie could not have been more helpful. We waited till the day of too book and they dropped everything and made sure the house was ready. Susie even left some homemade jam (from the many grape trees on site) and they made us feel really welcome. We've got 3 small kids and this was great retreat getaway from the City. Only 2 hours from Charlotte but a (better) world away. Awesome place with incredible view.

    chad2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Fabulous view, lovely house. We spent 3 nights there. It is remote, that's for sure. But the house and the view are totally worth it. Very clean and well stocked for cooking. We had trouble leaving in the mornings, it was so inviting. Great place to relax. And not far from Independence and Galax. Make sure you get there during daylight hours!

  • I really enjoyed my stay here. I was working on my writing, and the quiet, comfortable, clean environment helped me get quite a lot done. Fries is located on the end of the New River Trail, and I enjoyed a lovely cycle ride through the autumnal forest. Rachel made everything super easy, and the house is impressively equipped. I want to go back!

  • This house is Wonderful! We were pleased that Nana's Place was super accessible to the New River Trail. Location, location, location! The house has a very well equipped kitchen, and also three other comfortable and nicely decorated rooms to hang out in. However, we had good weather and spent most of our time enjoying the front porch, with comfortable seating and opportunities to meet the neighbors. For your planning purposes, the beds are all doubles, and the shower is in the upstairs bathroom. Minor for us overall, but worth noting.

Beautifully restored mill house in the very small town of Fries. everything was immaculate, beds were comfortable, all furnishings tasteful and very B and B feeling.l Our hosts rented us great bikes for riding on the old rail bed trail near by. it was a wonderful tstay for two nights. • Charming and comfortable home in a very quaint neighborhood, in a small town reminiscent of days gone by. Great location near the New River trail and easy access to nearby outfitters who rent bikes, canoes, kayaks, etc. But with the front porch and stars on the back deck, you may want to stay home. Very pretty decor and everything you might need - internet, tv, cable, full kitchen. Beware that cell phone service is very limited and spotty but the owner provides a landline for guest use.

Riverview Place is located in the mill town of Fries, VA which is where The New River Trail begins...
  • This house is located on the river and offers a beautiful view. It's at the beginning of the New River trail if you like to bike, walk or get on the river. The house is very clean and comfortable. It has everything you need. Rachel is quick to respond to questions and available if needed. If you're looking to get away from the city and need a place to relax, this is it. I loved this place and plan to come back.

  • Peaceful idyllic small community, formerly a riverside cotton mill town. The cottage overlooks the Kanawa River (or New River) and the only sounds at night were the gently rushing water and the Canada geese who winter on its banks. The house was immaculate and furnished very comfortably; beds, sofas, and chairs were clearly chosen to best accommodate a guest. All amenities were provided, appliances were new and in perfect order. We would return again for a restful and restorative visit!

  • Location, location, location! You cannot beat the view from the front porch of this home. The photos in the listing are accurate, both the view and the interior of the house. The house itself is very clean, the furnishings very comfortable (sheets were especially soft), and the kitchen well-stocked. The fridge, oven, and coffeemaker were the only applicances we used, and they all worked perfectly. Water pressure was good throughout the house, and the hot water was plentiful. Neighbors on both sides were very friendly; in fact, the whole town is very friendly! Would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • We had a very relaxing week. The cottage was very comfortable and well-equipped. The towels were thick and the sheets were very soft! We enjoyed being so close to the New River Trail, being a block from the cafe, and three blocks from the blue grass jamming/two-stepping/flat-footing at the Community Building. The mill town history makes Fries a unique place.

    Terrill2017-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Riverview is a clean, well equipped, very comfortable and charming historic cottage with a million dollar view of the New River. Plus the the New River trail is just steps away. The owners were extremely nice and responsive to any communications and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Great location for biking, walking, fishing, kayaking and if you enjoy bluegrass music you will love the Thursday night jam session in the Fries Theatre but don't be shy as the people of Fries are the friendliest most welcoming people you will ever meet. However if you want to do nothing at all then there is no better spot than the front porch, listening to the New River, the geese and you may even spot a bald eagle.

  • Pamela communicated with us quickly and efficiently. However, the place was not clean (mold in coffee pot, trash in kitchen receptacle), had worn out/torn furniture, seemed to be recently vacated by people and pets, and had some safety issues - disconnected smoke detectors, etc.

At the intersection of I-81/77, for less than a hotel room at The Bolling Wilson or "Hampton Inn" in Wytheville, Virginia, you can relax and stay in a fully restored four bedroom luxury English Country Cottage. Instead of an bland hotel room, you can sleep with a roaring fire in each bedroom, walk the grounds, have secure wifi and meet friends or family, and visit historic sites. The home is solid brick and a perfect refuge for a vacationer or business traveler.
The Cottage is a separate part of one of the finest homes in the south, and was built as a refuge for the owners in 1920. You will love the feeling, the ambience, and views of the lawns and gardens. It sits in a secure historic neighborhood, yet is 2 minutes from interstates 81 and 77. It has its own parking, and is completely pet friendly.
We are in the Historic District of Wytheville. Wytheville was a well known tourist destination in the turn of the century and there is a fabulous walking tour of the town's most notable homes and local shops.
  • Everything about our stay here was wonderful. The house itself is gorgeous -- and huge! -- filled with light and character. The location is perfect -- within a few minutes of any modern convenience you might need, yet while at the house it feels like you're in a world apart, on some lovely country estate in the middle of nowhere. We slept, we ate, we curled up by the fire, and we loved every minute. We didn't get to meet Richard, but did meet Lori, who was super-friendly and made us feel right at home. We also spent some time with the canine ambassadors, who made our dogs welcome. Getting to shut the gates and let our dogs race around the yard was great -- they give this place 8 paws up! Thanks so much for a great stay!

  • Incredible to say the least. This was the second property of the Formato's that we stayed in. It was amazing. Beautifully decorated and really really clean. We arrived here after staying in one of their other properties. Our town was evacuated because of Hurricane Matthew and we didn't know how long we would need to stay. They made us feel very welcomed. They were very accommodating and gracious. I've never used Airbnb because I was afraid of the worst. But let me tell you they set a pretty high bar and if you want a place to just relax. Then this the place for you!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Ingleside Cottage. Richard was very easy to work with and quick to respond to our inquiries. He also gave us a great recommendation for dinner at The Graze. The cottage was very spacious with plenty of room for our group of six. The beds were comfortable and having two full baths was a definite plus. We lit a fire in the living room fireplace one night and watched a movie on the Netfix enabled tv the next night. We enjoyed the canine ambassadors, Raj and Chili, who cracked us up when they'd open the door and come in for a visit. We'd definitely stay again if we found ourselves back in the area.

  • Whether you're just passing through Wytheville or decide on a weekend stay like my boyfriend and me, you will not find a better air bnb experience. Rich and Lori are very accommodating and welcoming. The cottage is great and has a very homie feeling. We enjoyed sipping wine by the fire and my dog enjoyed running around on the expansive property with the Formato's two yellow labs. We will definitely be back! :)

  • Trotter's Rest was wonderful for our weekend trip! The house is super comfortable and clean, located on a beautiful property in the mountains. Ideal size for a group of four (like ours) or bigger. Bruce is an attentive and generous host, and he was kind enough to help us set up the wood fired stove on one of the chillier nights. Would definitely recommend a stay here, hope to be back soon!

DON'T LET THE COLD WEATHER SCARE YOU! Our Cabin is just a mile off I-77 and easy to get to, even in the Winter! Just imagine snuggling in front of the Cozy Fire with your Sweetie! Remote-controlled Gas logs ignite with a touch of a button. Perfect for a Romantic Getaway. Book now for Valentine's Day. Don't miss out! Plus you don't have to leave your Pet at home. We welcome your well-behaved Fur Baby.
History buffs will love this cabin built of rare chestnut logs. It's difficult to pinpoint when the house was actually built, but a historical society determined it was constructed around 1850. While many of the historic features have been preserved, year-around comfort is insured. At Kent's Cabin you have a beautifully preserved Log home with every modern convenience.
  • Very comfortable, clean, and nicely appointed. Perfect for a romantic getaway and easy to find. It is very convenient to the interstate and New River as described. However, if you want a quiet getaway keep in mind the abundant road noise from the adjacent highway and nearby interstate.

    Amy2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is wonderful! Secluded and quiet, very clean and well maintained. Cozy. Great bathroom and shower. Comfortable bed. The fireplace was amazing. Everything you need to get away from it all and be happy. Loved the Christmas decorations and it was perfect for a small holiday weekend away. Our dogs and cat loved it too. The dogs had space to chew on toys by the fire and the cat loved sleeping on a rocking chair next to the fireplace. They also had the extra hotel like offerings, like a bottle of wine, coffee to make, towels laid out. This place may become a regular for us.

  • The cabin has such a warm and welcoming feel the first time you see it. There are 2 rockers awaiting you a shady front porch with beautiful flowers. The living room greets you with a warm feel with its fireplace, leather furniture and wood interior. I literally turned to my husband in happiness. The kitchen was a wonderful modern kitchen. Ann provided everything we needed! The caretakers were readily available and so kind the one time we needed them. Ann was so friendly and accommodating! We didnt even have to worry about laundry or dishwasher detergent. The towels were luxurious. The back porch had a propane grill where we enjoyed most of meals accompanied by the sounds of the various birds of the area! Our visit was simply LOVELY! My husband and I looking forward to returning again. Thank you so much Ann for sharing your home and the wonderful hospitality! The weeekend could not have been anymore relax

  • Love our stay at “The Cabin”. Great location near the New River Trail State Park(8 minute drive). All the amenities of home and awesome charm of the 1850 Log Cabin. Loved the gas fireplace on the cool mornings we had during the visit. Check out The Dutch Oven in Hillsville for awesome donuts, muffins, and pastries. Grayson Highland Park is totally worth the drive too. Thanks so much for being such a great host!

  • We loved this adorable cabin-- it had everything we could possibly need and it is so close to national parks and hiking trails. We would definitely stay here again!

    Alexandra2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • This Historic cabin exceeded all of our expectations. Our host Ann made it so easy to check in onsite that it didn't matter what time we got there, the was easily accessed. The huge fireplace is beautiful and has temp control. The couch and chair all recline to feel like home. The kitchen, dining, laundry, 1/2 bath and deck with patio table and grill were waaayyy more than you would expect, all seamlessly added on to original cabin. The steep old stairs to the big bedroom, bath and huge closet were worth it. Sooo charming with quality new towels and bedding, you never want to come back down. Big screen TVs on both levels with DirecTV were a bonus, again unexpected. A babbling brook, and the occasional acorn falling on the tin roof were charming enough that not worry about road noise. The fact that it was walking distance from the highway made it super simple to find, easy to make a hub to drop off things, change clothes, and be on your way friends from the New River Trail State Park to dinner in Wytheville. Lastly, loved the desk having brochures, maps, even menus for nearby destinations. Best Airbnb experience for either of us so far!! Thanks Ann!!

  • We had a very nice weekend. The cabin was well appointed with modern conveniences. We had limited contact with the owners. What we did have was very professional. The location provided a nice blend of activities and rest. In spite of the weather, we had a wonderful time.

  • Muffins & popcorn & a cute cozy cabin welcomed us on in for a nice retreat! The location on the New River Trail and the wonderful creek view made it perfect for us. We had quick and easy access to ride bikes on the trail. We loved our stay there!

  • Had such a relaxing time at Cozy Creek Cabin. It was exactly as the pictures appear. Very clean with a nice little welcome basket. The best thing was the running river right below tha cabin as well as a park with a 57 mile trail along the New River. It was wonderful, just sorry we didn't bring bikes. It had a wonderful kin g size bed and a nice towel warmer. Although it rained two nights it was sweet because of the metal roof. What a great sound. Two things I would liked to have had was a toaster and a larger frying pan,but we made out just fine. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends.

    Sherry2014-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Love the location - it is so peaceful on the porch with the river. Would definitely stay again.

  • This cabin is perfect for a getaway. We were greeted with an easy check in & some great amenities. We all slept comfortably and were not in need of anything. Be aware that cell service is somewhat spotty. We didn't mind though. It was nice to unplug while we were there.

    Torrie2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps told us the cabin was about a half mile from where we eventually found it, so don't worry if you have the same experience. Once we called Tonya it turned out we were literally just down the hill from the red-roofed cabin. It's in a beautiful location, exactly as described. Unfortunately it rained the whole weekend, so we didn't get to enjoy the creek, fire pit and nearby trails. Still, it's a pretty area and we enjoyed music both in Galax and Mt. Airy. The cabin is attractive, nicely furnished and we enjoyed our stay.

    Al & Joanne2015-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about this cabin is lovely--even nicer than the photos show. It's the perfect place to stay while biking on the New River Trail. Exceptionally comfortable bed, hot towels for the shower, plenty of dishes and cookware, colorful decor, and a beautiful view from chair on the front porch. Everything high end in a spectacular location--we'd come back in a minute.

  • Allen was very helpful and communicated well from the start. He gave us some good recommendations of things to do in the area. The home was clean, comfortable, and worked out very well for our family of four. There was lots of space in the great room for the kids to run around, and they enjoyed watching the trains go by on the backside of the property. The house is in a rural setting, yet the Interstate is just a few minutes away, making it convenient to tourist destinations in either direction.

    Adam2016-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The experience at Allen's house was quite good. The house was much bigger than expected, very neat and clean, and easy to find. It is about 10 minutes from Abingdon and maybe 30 minutes from Damascus, which were our two destination points. Allen was a very helpful host. He was present when we arrived, and gave us helpful information about the area.

    Samuel 2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I rented Allen's house during our 4-day motorcycle trip around the mountains of SW Virginia. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms was great for us. It is located right off of I-81 and is very accessible to local attractions. House is very clean and has lots of room! Allen was a very responsive, friendly host who offered suggestions about local dining options. It is important to note for those who may be light sleepers that this house abuts active train tracks and sits between two rail crossings. Thus, all passing trains sound their horns very close to the house. Also, no wifi. Overall, a great value, and I would definitely return.
