YARN is a very small and intimate venue with a unique atmosphere and we’re sure you’ll love it. They specialise in local craft beer, gins and good quality wines. Their burger and brunch menus focus on quality produce with a unique Yarn twist. Jade and Will opened Yarn in the winter of 2017 after moving back to Dartmouth in 2016 from a stint in New Zealand. They both have a long standing passion for food and drink and decided to embark on the project to bring a new and exciting venue to Dartmouth. The breakfast/brunch menu is a break from the norm, as Jade is a Kiwi it has a antipodean influence, giving you something unique in Dartmouth. They pride themselves on the quality of their coffee & source the beans from Roastworks Coffee Co (Cullompton). Their burgers are made from locally sourced beef with no additives and they make their own special burger sauce and seasoning. They offer plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too.

Andria is a relatively new addition to the foodscene in Dartmouth but within weeks was no.1 of the restaurants in Dartmouth on TripAdvisor. Serving Modern European Cuisine, this is a truly unique restaurant. A bit like tapas as you have lots of small plates and choose about 2 or 3 per person. The food is exceptional. The flavours are unusual and extremely well blended. Cannot recommend enough for a special night out.

Cafe Alf Resco - or known locally just as "Alf's" is a local institution (25 years old this year!). A must for breakfast or brunch during your stay. Their emphasis is on serving up local, freshly prepared food and drink. Bread and pastries are baked in Dartmouth, orange juice is freshly squeezed at the café and they serve their own home blend coffee, roasted locally. They are open 7 days a week from 7am till 2pm all year round. (but they don't take bookings so at peak times be prepared to wait for 10 or 15 minutes, it's worth it!)

The great outdoors & fabulous walks

Undoubtably the top thing to do in Stoke Fleming is to spend a day at the award-winning Blackpool Sands beach. This large sheltered cove on the South Devon coast has a Mediterranean feel with its clear turquoise waters and woodland valley location. The golden shoreline is made up of a fine shingle. There are rocks to explore at either end of the beach and a fresh water river on the southern end which is ideal for paddling. Be aware that the main beach shelves steeply, Facilities at Blackpool Sands include a Cafe, a Beach Shop, a Beach Sauna (highly recommend booking in advance) toilets and water sports hire. You can walk to the beach from Stoke Fleming village (approx 10-15 minute walk) but be aware that it’s a steep climb back up. Parking is chargeable at peak times of year and can be paid by card. Dogs are allowed between November and March. Check the beach website for exact dates and for how to book the sauna.

We love walking from Stoke Fleming to the Little Dartmouth National Trust carpark, & then we drop down onto the lower coast path to Dartmouth. Simply stunning views the entire walk. When we get to Dartmouth Castle there are two little coves - Sugary Cove & Castle Cove, both very small & fine shingle, but both so lovely. We grab a coffee & pastry from the Castle Tearooms to enjoy on beach, & then catch the Castle Ferry along the river into Dartmouth.

One of our favourite walks - Start Point and Great Mattiscombe Sands circular walk is just over2 miles and is simply stunning. Drive to Start Point Car Park - TQ7 2ET . The first section of this walk is a steady descent down the old lighthouse road to the headland, and after leaving the lighthouse road the Coast Path along to Mattiscombe Sand becomes more a little more challenging and uneven, so care needs to be taken. It is short but adventurous walk over a dragon's tail of spiny crags. There are wide-ranging views over the wide sweep of Start Bay as you drop down to the lighthouse at the tip of Start Point, and then the path travels over rock and coastal heathland to a secluded sandy beach (Mattiscombe Sands), reached only on foot from the Coast Path. On a good day, it is the perfect place for a picnic. The return leg from the beach is a gentle climb up a green lane back to the car park.
