Beautiful and easy hike to Hooker Falls (where you can slide out under the falls) and Triple Falls in Dupont State Forest.
Beautiful mostly easy hike to the top of a mountain on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Not too far of a drive and not too far of a hike.

Incredible palace of a home is worth seeing at least once, but my favorite part is the botanical gardens and landscaped grounds created by Frederick Law Olmstead, the same person who designed Central Park in NY and Golden Gate Park in SF.
