Favorite watering hole for music and sometimes dancing. When you want to feel like you're in Texas a little more strongly... Cowboy hats and boots are acceptable attire always.

A San Antonio staple located in an old convent in Southtown. They make their own bread and you can't go wrong with their late night happy hour (or anything on the menu).

Lots of dining options and little shops in an old industrial complex which used to brew Pearl Beer. On the north end of the River Walk (the "Museum Reach"). You can walk the river walk all the way downtown.

Hemisfair Park and Yanaguana Gardens are just south of the Alamo downtown. Beautiful playground for the kids and some dining options in the park. This is one of the few parks in San Antonio where open containers are allowed in the park. No glass though!

This is a 7 minute walk from the place. They have some recreated Texas landscapes, a magical children's area, and some old relocated limestone/timber cabins from the Hill Country. This is one of my favorite places to walk around. Admission fee for entry.

If you want to see a mission that is much more intact than the Alamo, this is the place. You can get a better idea of life for the early mission settlers and Natives they converted. You can also bike here along the riverwalk reach that extends south from the Blue Star Complex. Mission Concepcion is similar and closer to downtown SA but smaller.
