Great visitor tips for Stratford upon Avon

Food scene

Many of our guests enjoy a play at the RSC while visiting Stratford upon Avon. Great tip; it's the tallest building for miles around, so its rooftop restaurant has beautiful views. The outdoor terrace is popular on warm nights. The RSC also has a ground floor cafe with outdoor seating right next to the Avon river. It offers mainly coffee / tea and a limited range of cakes and sandwiches but that's made up for its location - right next to the River Avon.

Off the beaten track

We've the UK's only MAD museum. Some exhibits are hands-on, but all are professionally made and fascinate with their moving parts. Some ready to assemble kits are sold

Sightseeing

A 20 minute stroll through quiet streets will see you outside Anne Hathaway's cottage. Shakespeare's wife spent many years here. Beautiful large grounds and a well-guided tour of the cottage make this a must-do. And the little cafe tucked away on the other side of the street is a great spot for a quiet refreshing drink before your return walk.

Holy Trinity church is a Grade I listed building and has been a site of Christian worship for hundreds of years. Early church building records date back to the early 13th Century and it appears to have been built on top of a 9th Century monastery. William Shakespeare was baptised in this church, was probably married here, his funeral took place here and he is buried in the chancel to the north of the altar. The majority of the church dates from 1210, and is one of the few in Britain with a weeping chancel, where the chancel is offset from the nave by a few degrees to represent the position of Christ's head on the cross.
