Ovidiu Square

It is a great, large square with plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby and the Museum of History one one side - well worth the visit there too! The promenade consists in the Museum of National History and Archeology, old historical buildings and the pedestrian area on the edges of which are many restaurants and coffee shops. Sometimes there are cultural events, especially in the summer evenings. The place is pretty crowded, but mostly in the summertime. I recommend going for a walk around here, alone or with your beloved one(s), maybe enjoying some coffee and a good meal.

Museum of National History and Archeology

Great collection of Roman and prehistoric artifacts. Nice to fill an hour or two. Gorgeous building.

Kral Cami King's Mosque

Being the only mosque in Romania, this is an interesting piece of history. Worth paying the entrance fee just to climb the about 7 stories tower and get a marvellous view of Ovidius square and Constanta. It is listed as an historic monument by the Romanian National Institute of Historical Monuments. The Grand Mosque of Constanța was commissioned in 1910 by Romanian King Carol I. Visitors beware: it can cause anxiety or panic attacks due to the narrow stairs and climb. Easily accessible form Ovidius Square, I recommend visiting it, the view is incredible. You can see Ovidius Square, the History Museum, the harbour, the House with Lions, Intim Hotel, Saint Anthony Church, the Orthodox Cathedral, the Casino, Tomis Port.(starting from square, make your way to the left).

House with Lions Amazing architecture. The house is closed and degraded but I always enjoy looking at it, as it takes me back in time. It is called the House with Lions due to the four columns on whose capitals dominates the lion. When the wealthy Armenian merchant Dicran Emirzian inaugurated his residence in 1902, Elena Street was not without luxury, good taste and wealthy inhabitants. A few meters to the seafront, opposite the newly completed Armenian house, the upper class people have been staying since the early 1980s in the Hotel d'Angleterre, an equally impressive achievement for the early years of the 19th century architecture. It is rectangular in shape and does not have spires; as emphasized in the decree, churches in the Ottoman Empire could not be taller than mosques. The painting was done by a renowned iconographer from Mount Athos. In November 1878, a Te Deum was held inside, celebrating victory in the Romanian War of Independence and Northern Dobruja’s annexation to the Old Kingdom.[1]
