The neighborhood

To see and do within walking distance
The main reason why we love living here, is that the nature reserve is quite literally on the doorstep. The path down to the water, where our children feed the ducks; where you can take a swim or go for a run around the trails. All while still being able to have Södermalm within walking distance.

If you want to buy more than the bare necessities, you will either pass by ‘Hemköp’, if you are at Liljeholmskajen - or go to ’ICA’ at Årsta Torg. None is really close but of the two we usually go to Årsta Torg since there is usually a bus every 5-10 min, and it will take you there in about 5 min. But beyond buying groceries there is also a small library, a humble, weekend-only cinema and a number of restaurants. Of the latter, you should really consider paying a visit to ’Två små svin’ for some excellent smørrebrød and beers, or the ‘Crêperie Rustique’ for crêpes (and their shrimp salad is actually also something out of the ordinary). In addition, it should be mentioned that people come far and wide for the kebabs at Palmyras Kebab.

A short walk through the forest (alongside the water), you’ll find Liljeholmskajen. It offers lakeside restaurants (e.g. Primo Ciao Ciao), an ice cream shop and a bakery (’Brot’, open from 07:00) as well as bridges where you can sunbath and swim. But please note that you can only use ladders to reach the water (which is deep).

Snigelparken, ’The Snail Park’ is not much to see (though the snail is surprisingly popular among kids). So why venture here? It offers the closest supermarket. Though the supermarkets at Årsta Torg (’ICA’) and Liljeholmskajen (’Hemköp’) are significantly better, this one (‘Coop’) may offer a last-minute alternative since you can run to it, buy milk and run back in less than 5 minutes (or at least it has been done before). Also! This is where you can find the municipality-funded electric bikes, search for ‘Stockholm ebike”.

A playground worth a visit. But it is up a quite steep hill and consists of a number of smaller playgrounds so though it is worth exploring the pathways, small children will probably want some support in getting there and about. The part with the highest slide is suitable for older children since it is really quite high.

If someone in the family really has the urge to go to the playground, this is a pretty good option. It is a 5 minute walk through a nice park to get there, so although there are swings in our neighborhood, we would opt for Blomparken if possible.

If you find yourself on your way home from Södermalm, you may consider stopping by Drakenbergsparken before heading home. It offers a wide range of activities (especially during daytime). See this link for more information: https://parker.stockholm/hitta-lekplatser-parklekar-plaskdammar/parklek/parkleken-draken/ Afterwards you can stroll through the Tantolunden-park and walk across the Årstaberg bridge for a nice view. The walk home will take about half an hour.
