Food scene
If you want to find some private, exclusive beach front head 20 mins up the road to Ksamil. You'll be paying a few Euros for a bed and umbrella, but depending on the place (Restaurant) you choose you can get a lovely quiet sandy beach front, great hospitality and very friendly reception. We'd probably recommend the Oasis Club which is on the right at the top of the hill as you enter Ksamil. They are very friendly and we have known the owners for years.

Ksamil Beach

We love Saranda because it's easy to walk across (not too big that you need a car to get everywhere), has a delightful beach promenade with a range of restaurants to meet all the family's needs (cheap lunch for the hungry kids having spent the morning in the sea, but also lovely places to visit in the evenings for a more civilized meal at a fraction of the price you'd be paying in other countries across the Mediterranean.

We love Saranda because it's easy to walk across (not too big that you need a car to get everywhere), has a delightful beach promenade with a range of restaurants to meet all the family's needs (cheap lunch for the hungry kids having spent the morning in the sea, but also lovely places to visit in the evenings for a more civilized meal at a fraction of the price you'd be paying in other countries across the Mediterranean.
Neighbourhoods
Saranda has got such a friendly feel - which you'll find across Albania and Kosovo. People are very helpful and we've never seen trouble or felt threatened, even when walking back to the apartment late at night. All restaurants and bars are family friendly, which makes a huge difference to families feeling comfortable when on holiday. There's a fabulous 'cash and carry' just 2 mins walk from the apartment which is a huge plus as you can buy EVERYTHING you think you might need, including soft and alcoholic drink, pasta, massive jars of pesto etc! This makes family holidaying so much easier!
