Sightseeing

Chinatown is a vibrant and lively place of interest. There are many places of interests including the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Sri Mariamman Temple. The place has many good eateries. My favourite is the Chinatown Hawker Centre which is located on Level 2 of Chinatown Complex Market (Block 335). Try the claypot rice at Lian He Ben Ji Claypot Rice (#02-198/199), but the wait can be long so do go early. While waiting, order a steamed 'Songhe' fish in special fermented bean sauce. It is very tasty. A typical dish is about $12-$15. There are many stalls near the claypot rice selling that steamed fish dish.

Food Scene

It is a 'zhi char' place in Chinatown - meaning they cook family dishes for you. Very traditional and old school coffeeshop but it is delicious. My favourite dishes are 1) Pork rib with bittergourd in black bean paste 2) The black hor fun with beef or big prawn hor fun (there is also a white version - 'san lao' - hor fun with bean sprouts and fish slices) 3) "Har Cheong Gai" (fried chicken dipped with prawn paste) 4) "Ampang Yong Tau Foo" (yums) - Dun know how to describe it but just order this :) 5) Their Special (and BIG) prawn mee Take NE line to Chinatown and walk to Keong Saik Rd (less than 5 mins)
