Food Scene

If you want to taste typical nostalgic Dutch food (yes it exists) the 'Moeders' ('Mom's') is the place to be. Get your portion of 'Boerenkool' or 'Snert', in a restaurant where the walls are covered with pictures of Dutch mothers staring at you :-)

Dutch pancakes! A looooong menu full of options for your pancake: from sweet to savoury. Not very stylish or trendy yet quite popular and tasty. Just 2 minutes walking distance. It's called the Carousel ("'Merry-Go-Round") because it looks like one however it doesn't rotate. So no worries, you won't get dizzy.

A restaurant on a great and very unique spot, unknown to most tourists! Go to the ferries behind Central Station and take ferry 905 to "NDSM". After a 5min trip across the river "IJ", at arrival you will see the restaurant.

Drinks & Nightlife

Rembrandtplein (Rembrandtsquare) has a lot of bars and clubs on offer. Go for a stroll and you'll find what you need! Don't forget to take an iconic pic in front of the beautiful "Nachtwacht" statues in the middle of the square. It's super close to the apartment, all it take s is a 4-5min walk along 'Reguliersgracht'.

Leidseplein is probably the most famous but also most touristic square in the city-center. 5 min walking (Just follow the 'Lijnbaansgracht'-canal westward) from the apartment.

Arts & Culture

I don't need to tell you about the usual suspects such as Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. They're all at walking distance and probably already on your list. An original and probably lesser known museum is 'Tassenmusem Hendrikje': the Museum devoted to Bags and Purses! The museum's collection includes 4,000 items dating back to the 16th century. One of only three museums across the globe specializing in the field, and its collection is the world's largest. While the majority of visitors to the museum are women, the most valuable item on exhibit is a sixteenth-century men's goat-skin belt pouch with iron clasps. ;-)
