This is a total favourite for afternoon tea inside Kensington Gardens ( not the same as the tearooms at Kensington Palace). It is v popular and you can't book - you have to queue but for me it is worth waiting to sit inside this beautiful old building - you can have lunch here too. The photos here are have been added automatically and are incorrect - The orangery is a large airy Victorian building which has not been structurally altered since it was built.

This road has a lot of Chinese restaurants as well as food from other areas. Royal China has a good reputation - not cheap - but it's fun to walk along and just pick somehwere. The bowling alley and ice rink are here too

This is where we've always got our fish and chips - it's a five minute walk down Ladbroke Grove from our place - just before you get to the underground station. You can eat inside or bring the food back home with you. Marble sculptures and ancient artefacts, fashion exhibitions ( Mary Quant etc - check what is on ) a great courtyard with a pond for lunch or afternoon tea and cehck out the other tea room with a gorgeous Victorian mosaic ceiling - a highlight for me

You can see peacocks, a rose garden, ponds, a traditional Japanese garden, get ice-cream and there is a are two good children's playgrounds - a sandy one for those under 6 and a more adventurous area for the older ones. There's also a natural woodland play area and tennis courts

There are several cafes, a fantastic children's playground, the Princess Diana playground complete with huge wooden pirate ship. and the famous Diana fountain ( a stream that runs through granite) a great place to sit and dip your feet in the water on a hot day - though it can get crowded. Plenty of trees to sit under, and areas to sunbathe and there is the Round Pond for those who like bird-life!

( closed Thursdays) But on Saturday amd poss Friday there is an antique market at the north end and clothes and furniture towards Golborne Road. Get there before 11 to avoid the crowds - or go late to get the bargains on the fruit and veg stalls. NB there is no market on Thursdays

The bookstore on Blenheim Crescent opened in 1979 and was made famous in the film Notting Hill - it was freqented by the film's direcotr who lives locally and was the inspiration for the bookshop in the film though it was not filmed there. Everyone takes selfies outside but please do go in and buy a postcard even if you don't buy a book. The original business closed down despite it's fame. But this is still a good place to buy interesting travel books. Someone has now also opened a bookstore on Portobello itself in the location where the film was actually shot at no 142 Portobello Road. This sells souvenirs.

Peter Jones is right opposite Sloane square tube which is a couple is stops on the circle line from Notting Hill Gate and sells men and women’s fashion, children’s clothes, makeup, fabric, bedlinen. carpets, crockery, glasses, coffee makers, and electronics. Most things you could possibly want and all of a good quality.
