In the old days Doe Bay was a hippie hang out known for its clothing optional hot tubs. Today its been revamped to appeal to the hipster set . Extra points for the Coachella wannabe "Doe Bay Fest" held every August. Doe Bay retains its funky charm and yes, still has the hot tubs.

Get Outside
Yeah, this is a must see. Moran State Park is the gem of Orcas Island. Hiking & bike trails, horseback riding, waterfalls, two lakes...and Mt. Constitution- the highest peak in the San Juan Islands. Drive up and admire the view then take a walk around Cascade lake. Swim in the summer. Play area for kids and plenty of picnic spots.

Hiking trails with spectacular views on the west side. The Orcas Island community and the San Juan Preservation Trust raised $20 million to save this 1700 acre parcel from development. Turtleback Mountain Preserve was created in 2006. We still have our Save Turtleback hat!

The museum is housed in a collection of pioneer cabins. The Boede cabin located in the front of the museum came from our farm! The Boedes homesteaded this property in the 1880's and built a farmhouse in 1916 (where our house stands today). The cabin was moved to the museum in 1955.

181 N Beach RdThe museum is housed in a collection of pioneer cabins. The Boede cabin located in the front of the museum came from our farm! The Boedes homesteaded this property in the 1880's and built a farmhouse in 1916 (where our house stands today). The cabin was moved to the museum in 1955.

Visit San Juan Island
Take a day trip to San Juan Island. There's lots to do there. You can walk on the ferry for free and explore the town of Friday Harbor right off the dock. Bring your car though if you want to see the rest of the island. San Juan Island is known for its parks, beaches and scenic Westside Drive with dramatic views overlooking Haro Straight. Its worth the trip.
Watch the whales from shore and visit the lighthouse. We recommend you see the whales from here, rather than take a tour boat. Our resident Orca whales are endangered. They are extremely intelligent, social animals that live in matriarchal groups. Boat noise interferes with their feeding and communication.
