Great Spanish tapas at reasonable prices, especially good for their patatas gratinadas and pork cheeks.

Good selection of milkshakes, alcohol and food. Reasonably priced and set in an american diner style with a pool table. I recommend the fererro rocher milkshake. They also do generous cooked breakfasts.

Cheap and cheerful, great if you love chicken wings! They have a huge selection of spices, rubs and sauces for your wings. They also do chicken nuggets, chips and a cheesy chenga. They have a selection of board games available as well as a small cinema screen (you can request certain films) and they have retro video games if you fancy mariokart etc. A great place to chill out for the afternoon although booking is a good idea.

Arts & Culture

Its a great museum, recently refurbished and is over 7 floors! They often have visiting exhibitions. You can learn a lot about Scottish and British history here. The best part is that it is free although donations are welcome. The museum can get quite busy but there is loads to see so you will be able to find things to look at.

Parks & Nature

Arthur's Seat is a must do in Edinburgh! There is a set path that you can walk around which takes around one hour depending on walking speed. The path is around 5km or 3 miles long. You can also choose to climb up for fantastic views of the city. There are 2 duck ponds so take along some seeds to feed the ducks and swans!

Fantastic, free gardens with a variety of beautiful plants. There are glasshouses which you can access but I think there might be a small fee to get in there. The Botanic Gardens is great for a walk around, there is a cafe or you can take a picnic and enjoy this on a bench or on the grass.

Also known as Silverknowes Beach, walking distance from my home. There are nice walks along the promenade and in the good weather there is usually an ice cream van around. There is also the beach cafe serving good cakes.

Getting Around

When travelling from the apartment to the city centre, there is a bus stop on Ferry Road, around 3 minutes walk from the home. Take the 29 bus into town, it takes 20-30 minutes depending on traffic and the time of day. The 29 bus stops at Princes Street and you can stay on until North Bridge for easy access to the Royal Mile and other tourist locations. I recommend that you download the free Lothian Buses app available for apple and android phones. The bus app gives you a bus tracker so you know when the bus is due. It also helps you to plan routes. You can buy tickets on the app although it is a minimum spend of £10. A single bus trip costs £1.60 and a day ticket costs £4 each.
