Casual, excellent BBQ. Tons of sauces to pick from. It is all good here, from the corn bread to the beans to the brisket and chicken. I give you permission to order the All American Feast. Yes, they serve beer too.

Simply delicious and authentic Thai food. If you haven't tried Thai before, but want to start out mild, this is the place to go. They will ask you what level of spice you want from 1-10. Here's a great start other than the standard Pad Thai which is over-ordered (not that there's anything wrong with that): get the PAD PUK with chicken #58A. You won't be disappointed.

Yummy. Affordable. Small place but we can always get a table for 4 w/o a wait. Great service. The cook always come out to talk to the customers to see how they like the food. Free and easy parking in the back of the restaurant.

Get yourself some Thai rolled ice cream after you eat dinner at Thai Garden. They are only a few doors away from one another. Not sure what makes it Thai, but this place is one of those small joints where you watch at the counter, through the glass as they beat up fresh cream and turn it into ice cream before your eyes. They also serve coffee, cappucino, and lattes.

Home made ice creams, and lots to choose from. Get it in a cup or a fresh made daily waffle cone. You can gain weight just smelling the waffle cones once you enter the door. This is an iconic location on Grand Avenue where mayors, celebrities, and presidents go to get their ice cream when in town.

This is a craft beer joint. Lots on tap. Home made sausages and pretzels. The pretzel is HUMONGOUS. And the cheese dip is not to be missed. Long communal picnic tables, tvs, fun vibe. Multiple locations. There's another one on West 7th in downtown St. Paul if you are already on that end of town.

Visually lots to look at here. Food and drinks. Decorated with carnival flare, including a ferris wheel on the patio. The ultimate summer thing to do. Pay way too much for a margarita and get a ticket on the ferris wheel for decent views of Mpls and the river. Could be a long wait if you go during peak hours.

Trendy place with amazing food. Known for their burgers, but everything is great. You will have a wait, so plan on that or go at an odd hour. I would call this upscale. On the high end of burger prices. Great drink menu and beers on tap. If the wait for a table is long, GREAT! Go across the street to Moscow on the Hill or WA Frost and have a drink. Moscow does vodka well- including flights of vodka. WA Frost is classic old school St. Paul - sit in the basement and take in all the charm and character of this place. Pricey drinks. Worth a one time drink visit.

Not sure what to categorie Surly in. Of course it is a brewery and HUGE, with great big HUGE outdoor seating too (even with heaters), but they also have great food. The trick with Surly is that it's always crowded. So if you don't get there on an off-beat time, you'll be surely be waiting in a long line to get in. Be forwarned that the road/driveway to get into this industrial Surly area is kind of hard to find, and the road is always always full of potholes. Ample parking available, but you could be a long way from the front door, so hats and mittens required here!

This place is just cool to look at because it is in the old Hamm's building. Ultra casual. But no food -sometimes a food truck. So only go here if you want to kick back and drink a good beer because you like to see exposed brick and coved ceilings.

They only serve their own ciders (not beers). About 12+ on tap. Many of them are gluten free if needed. Cool vibe here. Something new to try other than a brewery. They offer flights so you can sample them too.

Pretty drink menu. I like this place for the coziness and character. Go down into the basement, find a table or area for your group and get an expensive drink. This place is old school St. Paul. Brick basement, small little seating coves are built in, very old huge classic bar. Lots of character. Fancy drinks and beers, they also have a small menu but I've never eaten here- only had drinks. It is across the street from Red Cow, so I recommend getting on the wait list at Red Cow, then run over to W A Frost and have a drink while you wait for your table.

Sightseeing

Free tours. Check the website for times, I think they do it 2 x an hour and you don't need a reservation. The capital just had a bazillion dollar renovation completed and it is absolutely stunning! I believe their is only one tour a day where you can get up to the top where the golden horses are. Great views of St. Paul and the Cathedral from here.

Gorgeous church that most visitors mistake for the state capital building. You are welcome to stop in at any time (being respectful of any services that might be taking place). They do offer free tours. Check the website. Great views of the city from here. The Cathedral is a good stop if you plan to drive down or walk down Summit Avenue (where the really wealthy homes are).

Gasp and gawk at the lovely homes that line the historic Summit Avenue. If you cannot walk it, at least drive it. On the west end, Summit Avenue will dead end into Mississippi River Blvd, which also has a fantastic walking/bike path and great views of the river looking over into Mpls.

Arts & Culture

Haven't been here yet but I hear great things about it. The museum resides in the old Gold Medal Flour mill along the Mississippi which separates Mpls from St. Paul. This is a great way to get the history of how and why the cities were built on the river and how flour is partly responsible for building up these great cities. The Stone Arch bridge is in walking distance to the museum. That's a must see. Lots of lovebirds get their wedding pics taken there. Great architecture.

Parks & Nature

FREE. Really, really great zoo. I even go here as an adult. I don't even like monkeys, but the monkey house is fantastic. And every single time I go, the polar bears are IN the water playing and you can view them through a glass wall. Como is an absolute MUST SEE. This is our Central Park. Running/biking/walking trails, a lake, a waterfall, Japanese Gardens, a band shell (free concerts and movies in summer), a golf course, sledding, a flower conservatory, fire rings, pavillions, and cross country skiing. Only costs here are: historical merry-go-round, golfing. The conservatory and the zoo are MUST SEES. And the Japanese Gardens (summer only).

Shopping

If you like shopping, this mall is nearby and just had a facelift. There are numerous sit down restaurants inside that are quite good. Note: Mostly the same stores you will find at The Mall of America. I don't like shopping so I can't justify sending you to the MOA. If you want to see a giant mall, you should experience the MOA. But you'll find the same basic stores here at Rosedale if you just need something quick. There is an AMC movie theatre here. But if you want a cheaper movie ticket, go to: New Vision Mounds View. Or see a CHEAP movie on it's way out for $3 at The Plaza in Maplewood.
