If you haven't been, everyone should make a day trip to Muir woods. If you have a car, you must go online and reserve parking or just take your chances. there is also a way to get a shuttle bus.
Plenty of hikes in this area from a easy boardwalk through some old redwood groves or more moderate and longer hiking from off the muir woods boardwalk.

If you can, drive up through Point Reyes and hike out Tomales Point. Make a day trip out of it, about 9 miles round trip, in and out trail so can do as much or as little as you want. Totally worth it. This is one of our favorite hikes. If we can't think of another, we will happily take the drive out and do this one if we have a free day!
