The dahlia garden is a must see during the summer months! First week of August is Art in the Gardens, a celebration of artists near and far, with over 100 vendors and of course, our local wineries! There is also a cafe during summer. In December there is the Festival of Lights, in which the front area is decorated, creating a beautiful and unique light show. There is also a heated, tented area with live music, wine and homemade treats. The Gardens are dog friendly, except for special events. Information on events is in the room, or you can visit online at Gardenbythesea.org.

This whole area has got to have the most spectacular coastline! When you park in the parking lot, there’s a sign with an arrow pointing to the left that says “glass beach”. This was the old original beach that is now protected. You cannot get down there. If you go to the right of the parking lot however, there are beaches that you can walk down to. And yes, there is plenty of Seaglass, however it tends to be seasonal, depending on the surf. This is a promotional picture, and it doesn’t look like that any more. The glass is mostly green, brown and clear. Personally, I just think it’s a nice little beach!

Want to walk off your lunch? Here you go! This lovely trail is paved with markers and benches. It goes all along the coastline from Glass Beach to Todd’s Point, about 5 miles each way. Great for running if you’re so inclined to bring your running shoes with you on vacation!

This is a fun little beach where a lot of the abalone divers go, so not uncommon to find pieces of abalone shells. It is very easy to access, whether you have small children, or you just don’t like to walk that far . Dog friendly, and in the summer a kayak guide is there ready to take you out on a tour!

I haven’t been on the tour yet, but I-have been out on the beach when the groups come back. Everyone has just raved about this...an experience you just have to try!

The beach is gorgeous here, and you might even catch a few surfers! I just enjoy sitting on the beach with my book. This is only part of the state park, many trails and some serious coastline. I have never seen waves as big as the ones I’ve seen here.

Beautiful hike through the redwoods! You will pay for a day pass. Make sure you get a map. I took the trail to the waterfall. You can also ride your bike, but only about half way. There is an area with tables and bike racks so you can lock up and walk to the waterfall. After passing the waterfall, the trail loops back to where you started. The trail is very well maintained and relatively easy UNTIL you pass the waterfall. It is uphill climb after that, and I had to plant myself on a log a few times to rest. The trees and creeks are breathtakingly beautiful. It takes about 3 hours for about 5 miles, and not because I’m old, but because you want to stop and enjoy, and well yeah, rest a bit. I would also recommend bringing a fanny pack and a bottle of water. After my excursion, I drove to the beach that was close by.(you can also walk, but by that time I was tired and dirty.) The beach is under a bridge. Small, but pretty, with clean bathrooms and DRINKING fountains. You can tailor your day there by planning walks on different trails, or just a quick visit. It just depends on how outdoorsy you are, or what other things you have planned. I loved it..Enjoy!

Best Fancy Restaurant

This place is breathtakingly beautiful, with excellent food and service! The entrance is off North Harbor Drive before you get into the harbor. A driveway to the left, and enjoy the view of the Noyo River and the marina! I went with my family, and none of us dressed up, but I suppose you could . The chef is an artist, with creations that will amaze you.. Enjoy!

Food scene

Highly recommend fish and chips. My brother came to visit from Great Britain and he even said they were wonderful! Personally, I enjoy the hamburgers and the lovely view of the harbor. Most of the seating is outdoors, but there’s a big fire pit. You can watch the fishing boats come and go, and converse with the seals over lunch...One of the rare places in town you can get a burger under $10.

So I was told when I first moved into town, that I need to eat where the locals eat. That is where the food is always the best. David’s has got this one hands down in my opinion. It’s a big noisy coffee shop that is usually crowded, but don’t let that fool you, the service is excellent. So is the food.

Although I am not a beer drinker, I visited here because I wanted to see how the food was. I sat at the bar and had a bacon cheeseburger that was to die for. I ate everything on my plate down to the very last french fry, I don’t do that very often. The place was somewhat busy, and everyone looked to be having a good time. Nice atmosphere with very good service. Even for non drinkers like me..Big thumbs up!

Not sure why there’s a picture of the dollar store, but yes there is one next-door! If you are looking for gourmet foods, wines and local products, this is your store. It also has the largest selection of natural skin care and supplements I’ve ever seen! If you like fresh organic produce, and meats then here you go. I had a hamburger that was grilled to perfection out front during summer. It was WONDERFUL. Also, a huge selection of essential oils and C B D products.

You feel welcome right when you walk in the door. The food on the menu is very reasonable, and exceptionally good! It is Mexican food, But with a gourmet twist. I had nachos with chicken and roasted vegetables. They were topped with mole’ sauce. The order is huge, so perfect for sharing! Of course I was eavesdropping on other groups, and seeing what they ordered. All of the dishes looked wonderful, and everyone was having a good time! Chips and salsa are served.

Want the freshest seafood in town? A few times a week “The Princess” heads out of the harbor with its all women crew. All of their catch is cut and prepared right here! I purchased some salmon when I had company, and we all agreed it was the freshest we have ever had! If you’re looking for something to prepare at home, or wanting to dine on their outdoor patio, this is your place. They also have live music on certain evenings.
