Sightseeing

A short descent across the fields Hall Farm overlooks and you find yourself at the bottom of the steps up to Thor’s cave (or Limestone cavern to be precise). An impressive geological wonder, quite worth the 200( and some!) steps up for its incredible viewpoint across the Manifold Valley, and for those with who like a scramble a unique opportunity to venture inside the cave itself *Please take care as the rocks at the entrance are slippy when wet; be sure to work within your own limits* You can then head in an easterly direction from the cave to loop back across the fields and along a farm track to return to your start point. A perfect evening circular to take in the views as the sun sets.

Lovely village with a multitude of scenic walks, a play ground, 12th Century church - featuring the oldest legible gravestone in England - and the well renowned gastro-pub The George. You can walk to Alstonefield across the fields from Wetton - approx 3 miles out and back.

A short walk from our door and you hit the fantastic Manifold Way, just below Thor’s cave. 8miles in length you can walk south towards Waterhouse’s, or north to Hulme End. Here, bikes can be hired - and ice cream purchased- should you wish to explore its full length. Well trodden by walkers and also a favourite with cyclists, this path follows the Manifold Valley mostly along a historic railway track (see https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manifold_Way) for more info. Wetton Mill is about a mile from where you meet the track below Hall Farm; another popular historic attraction. Along this stretch of the walk, the river valley is dry in the summer months, which makes for interesting viewing.
