Walk to the southern end of Whiritoa beach. There is an unmarked trail which takes you up stairs to a look out point over the beach. If you continue to follow this trail, you will discover the "blowhole" - a collapsed cave where the surf at times surges through into the cavern.

The Pinnacles Track is a very popular track for young and old. The 3 to 4hr walk leads to a modern 80 bed hut on the Pinnacles, with fantastic views across the Coromandel Peninsula on a fine day. Hidden behind Thames it’s around 16km drive to the start. Thames is an hr drive from Whiritoa. The hut must be booked in advance online.

Part of the 82km rail trail around the coromandel peninsula. We recommend starting at the Karangahake hall and biking to the Waikino pub (or continue through to waihi). Trail follows the river, through the 1km long tunnel (bring a torch), and has sights of the old victoria battery site from the gold mining era.
