For a place to get outside and enjoy the scenic landscape, Turkey Creek Sanctuary provides that and more. The on-site nature center provides educational interpretive exhibits and a gift shop where you can take home a souvenir to commemorate your time there.

One of the trails offered is the Grapefruit Bike Trail. This free ride park provides multiple line hubs and an advanced single track for those of you who are intermediate or advanced in skill level. Have fun with your group as you navigate the different challenges and elevations that are offered. This trail is not for the beginner off-rider. Trails are clearly marked, helmets are required, and all precautions are recommended. Parking is limited and in grassy areas. Additional parking is available off site at St. Joseph's Catholic Church or Winn-Dixie. The Grapefruit Bike Trail is located in a residential area, so be courteous and aware of your surroundings.

Go back in time as you watch a movie showing the tales of the ill-fated 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet attempting to return to Spain but were thwarted when a hurricane hit Florida’s coast. Look at artifacts and other displays as you step onto the observation deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. And don’t be surprised if you still see people looking for more of the lost treasure on the sandy shores. Snorkeling & Scuba Diving Exploring under the sea isn’t just for the mermaids. At Sebastian Inlet, snorkeling and scuba diving give you a view of sea life that those who don’t brave putting their head under water miss out on. The rock reefs stretch for miles giving you hours of fun under the surface. Scuba divers and snorkelers must be within 100 feet of a dive flag for safety. Boating What’s better than a day out on the water, cruising around, listening to music, making memories with those you enjoy doing life with? Sebastian Inlet gives you access to the Indian River Lagoon, the Intracoastal Waterway, the Sebastian River, and the Atlantic Ocean. The park commemorates the epic 1513 voyage of Juan Ponce de León and his landing near Melbourne Beach, Florida on April 2. Juan Ponce de León's 7,980 nautical mile exploration into unknown waters set the stage for the subsequent European colonization of the USA. But that significant historical fact has been lost in the categorically untrue reports by past historians that he was a vain old conquistador looking for a fountain of youth. Colonel Douglas T. Peck, a notable Florida historian and principal speaker at the park dedication on April 2, 2005, concluded from comprehensive historical research that Juan Ponce de León was not looking for a fountain of youth, and that he landed near Melbourne Beach—125 miles south of the previously accepted site of his landing, St. Augustine. Colonel Peck, a retired US Air Force Command Pilot, has been engaged in his avocation as a historian of early seafaring Spanish exploration for over two decades. Using his expertise as a professional navigator as well as a historian, Colonel Peck re-sailed the voyage using Juan Ponce de León's detailed navigational log to determine in an accurate and scientific manner exactly where Juan Ponce touched shore or anchored in his 7,980 nautical mile voyage. His published works on the voyage have appeared in many academic journals, including The Florida Historical Quarterly (1992), in his book "Ponce de León and the Discovery of Florida", in media documentary, A&E Channel, Ancient Mysteries, and is available on the Internet. Juan Ponce de León, c.1460-1521, Spanish explorer, was the first Westerner to reach Florida. In 1493 he accompanied Columbus on his second voyage to America. From 1502 to 1504 he assisted in the conquest of Higuey (now the Dominican Republic) and was made governor of that province. After finding gold on Boriquén (Puerto Rico) in 1508, he conquered the island and was governor from 1509 to 1512. Hearing tales from the Carib of a wonderfully rich island called Bimini, said to be north of Cuba, Juan Ponce de León secured a commission (1512) to conquer and colonize that land. A legend developed that he was seeking a spring with waters having the power of restoring youth. From Puerto Rico on March 3, 1513, with three vessels, he sailed north west through the Bahamas, sighting the Florida peninsula (which he took to be an island) late in March and landing at the Melbourne Beach site on April 2nd. Probably because his arrival in Florida occurred at the time of the Easter feast ( Pascua Florida ), Juan Ponce de León named the land (which he claimed for Spain) La Florida. He turned south, and landed in what is now Brevard County while exploring the coast to Key West and up the west coast as far as Cape Romano. Every year between May and September thousands of sea turtles return to our beaches to lay their eggs. The best part is, there are several organizations that host guided turtle walks so that you can safely see and experience this incredible cycle. If you're headed to the Space Coast during Sea Turtle Nesting Season, don't miss out on one of these incredible tours. Come and experience a guided sea turtle walk. Guest will learn about nesting sea turtles found on Brevard County beaches, the threats they face and what they can do to help protect them. The evening will culminate with the opportunity to observe a nesting loggerhead. It is a lady's prerogative and she may change her mind, so we can not guarantee a nesting observation at each turtle walk. With that, our walks are held at Coconut Point Park, inside the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, the most important loggerhead nesting beach in the world. One quarter of all loggerhead nests occur inside the refuge, which ranges annually between 8,000 to 20,000 nests. Our trained scouts are a group of dedicated marine biologists and seasoned volunteers. They eagerly scout the beach for a nesting loggerhead sea turtle, using proper techniques to avoid causing disturbances. They are knowledgable and available to answer any of your questions during the event, even if it is just a general marine biology question! Arrival time is 8:55 pm. Adults and children ages 7+ are welcome to attend. Be prepared to walk up to 1/2 mile (likely less) on the beach to observe a nesting Loggerhead female. Water and bug spray could enhance your experience. Cell phones, cameras and flashlights will stay cozy in your car or at home. The area is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including storks, alligators, manatees, as well as rare and endangered tropical plants. With the exception of a short nature trail along Fourth Street South, all access to islands is by boat. The primary access point is from Ramp Road boat ramp in Cocoa Beach. A short nature trail exists on the northern most island known as North Crawford Island. The islands have many channels that provide great paddling opportunities. Marked paddling trails are currently in development Do's and Don'ts Pets, smoking, alcohol, motorized vehicles, and hunting are prohibited.
