Sightseeing

Our neighbouring village Bedoin is a mecca for serious cyclists. You can rent a suitable bicycle, from the top models of Pinarello to ascend Mont Ventoux and have a taste of the Tour de France, to simpler cycles for casual bikers. The cafes and restaurants in this village are fabulous. There is also the weekly market on Monday - a must for us whenever we're there!

The weekend antique market at Isle sur la Sorgue is renowned. Finding great buys is not so easy these days but it's still a wonderful market to visit and enjoy watching the world go by in a cafe by the river.

The village takes its full name - Crillon le Brave, from the most legendary of the dukes that ruled it. Louis des Balbes de Berton de Crillon or "Le Brave Crillon" (1541–1615). Louis was one of Henri IV's fiercest, roughest and also most valiant generals. During the French Wars of Religion in the late 16th century, he was covered with honours for his feats on the battlefield and his loyalty to the king. The same Crillon family gave its name to the famous Hôtel de Crillon in Paris.

Carpentras's Friday markets are the best nearby. An absolute must visit. Chez Serge is a local favourite for great regional food and truffles, while Jouvaud in the town's historic centre has the best patisseries and chocolates.

One of our favourite restaurants by far, l’Oustalet’s position on under the ancient platanes of Gigondas simply enhances the wonderful cooking of Laurent Deconinck.
