This is a great hike that starts from Harpers Ferry Rd along the Potomac River on the Maryland side. It's a 2-1/2 mile hike each way and is well worth the trip. It's best suited for active adults and children. This is not a "walk in the park" kind of hike. You can make the hike longer by adding in the loop to see the Old Stone Fort, ruins from the Civil War.

Over 10,000 souls were lost on this huge battlefield with stunning views of the valley and distant mountains. Huge 4th of July celebration and known for its luminary event just before Christmas where more than 1,200 volunteers light 10,000 candles to honor those who lost their lives.

No parking lot, but pretty safe on-street parking, but can be crowded in the afternoons, and a 2-mile scenic, level walk or biking to Harpers Ferry with a walking bridge into Harpers Ferry alongside the railroad bridge and tunnel. Lots of paths down to the river for picnics or splashing in the river.

Getting Around
Historic Train station. Amtrak makes stops here. If traveling with your bike, you can hop off the train here and take the C&O Canal Towpath on level ground right to our house, or give us advance notice, and we can pick you and your luggage up.

The largest stop on this line, MARC Train runs on weekdays from Brunswick all the way into Washington, DC in the mornings, back out from DC in the afternoon and evenings for only $9 each way. Check the MTA website for schedules. My husband commutes to and from work daily on this line, so if you want to come out for a weekday visit, we can transport you to our house and back when you're ready to leave. MARC trains have on-board bathrooms and allow eating and drinking on-board.

Check the MTA website for schedules. My husband commutes to and from work daily on this line, so if you want to come out for a weekday visit, we can transport you to our house and back when you're ready to leave. MARC trains have on-board bathrooms and allow eating and drinking on-board.
