There are so many quality food/ice cream/fudge spots in northern MI, I could be here all day listing them! You can easily do your own research, but I wanted to point out a handful of spots throughout northern Michigan that you might enjoy.

Located in Harbor Springs…If you are looking for some of the best steak, chicken wings, or a good black bean burger, this is a great pick! We’ve never gotten anything at Vernales we don’t love. The entire group can can dine by the fire/bar area and enjoy some chicken wings, or you can dine in the other part of the restaurant and enjoy a steak or specialty meal.

The place where Hemingway used to write - if you enjoy good food and history, this is a great spot in Petoskey! When you walk into City Park Grill you'll see the beautiful hand carved wood bar where Hemingway used to write, and even his old cigar burn on the wood. They often have live music, and also give tours in the cellar area on various days that show some of the gangster history in northern MI.

A unique menu with gluten free, vegan/vegetarian friendly options. I used to work at this restaurant, and although I haven’t been back in a while - I can honestly speak to the caliber of food and service provided here. Trails
Often missed by tourists, this is a relaxing and quaint walking trail right near downtown Petoskey that is great ALL year round! Make sure to walk all along the trail near the rapids - not just on the sidewalk! Once you come to the 2nd bridge, you can walk past to get to the mini waterfall. The entire trail loops around, and is often overlooked by visitors! Bear River was the original name of the city of Petoskey, and it’s one of our favorite spots to hike/walk! The entire river is about 15 miles long, but this is just a small portion of it!

This area used to be a golf course, which they recently converted into a nature preserve. There are some gorgeous views here - especially in the fall! You can also get a good workout in walking up some of the larger hills.

This is a ski resort - but it’s gorgeous in the summer and fall as well. This is the highest peak in Harbor Springs, and is less touristy than Boyne Highlands. You can simply drive up and park in the parking lot for some gorgeous views and a good workout!

If you like history, architecture, or want a beautiful walk by the water - this is the place to visit right by the water in Harbor Springs! A popular spot to walk, run, or bike, and with great sunset views. You’ll see historic Victorian homes, a view of “the point” and various boats. A nice place to start is at Zoll Street Park. If you have time, walk past the drinking fountain and the main Wequetonsing dock, and go to the end of the road to see some of our favorite homes!

This is an incredible spot! Go in the middle of a night for a meteor shower or just to look at the stars. There’s sometimes live music at night, there are trails nearby, and an observatory. You can look online for the observatory hours.

In Charlevoix...a beautiful spot to visit if you haven’t been here yet! There’s an old fashioned draw bridge that allows you to see boats come in and out - and even boat tours. The beach is great for all ages and has a play structure for kids. The mushroom houses are right nearby, along with some fun trails that lead to other less traveled beaches. Highly recommend taking a day trip to Charlevoix!
