Cute, no-reservation, fantastic cocktails (there's a bar extension next door) and the best ramen ever - handmade noodles, donburi and small plates, short menu on which you can NOT go wrong. Very gourmet but not fancy. About 1 mile walk but a very nice neighborhood to walk through passing coffee and shops along the way.

A beautiful national park about a 1 hr. (but gorgeous) drive. Lots of hiking, beaches, views, seashore and wildlife. You are guaranteed to love it. Pt. Reyes Station is a small town worth visiting for the local bakery and bookstore. Stocking up on picnic supplies or stopping in for lunch or dinner after a hike makes for a long but wonderful day in nature.

There are no automobiles on this historic island in the middle of the bay. Ferry access only from SF or Tiburon. The Tiburon pier is the more mellow option if possible. Most people take bicycles for the 5.5 miles circumference road. Majestic views of the bay and SF. Windswept and haunting, this island served as the West's biggest immigrant processing center for the first part of the 20th century.

A must-see in San Francisco, if you like museums. Special exhibits out-perform the permanent collection. Walking distance to China Town, Union Square and the Ferry Building. Take the ferry over from Jack London Square in Oakland for extra fun on the bay. The museum has a lovely cafe (or the Ferry Building is a fantastic place to eat with lots of choices and outdoor seating).

The permanent collection of this SF museum is "classical" era European art and rather snooze worthy. However, visiting exhibits are sometimes well worth seeing. Check the website for updates on what's showing. I have seen very memorable contemporary shows here so not to be discounted.
