A “must do” for Southwest Colorado scenery. Purchase your tickets well in advance, take the bus back to Durango instead of riding the train both ways (makes for a very long day). While you’re in Silverton, have lunch at Handlebars (worth the wait) and if you happen to be there on a Sunday, order the green chile cheese soup.

This is our favorite winery in the area. It’s just over an hour’s drive from Casa con Vistas in a gorgeous location along the San Juan River (which is also great for fly fishing). Be sure to try the Sweet Cherry Pie wine -even if you don’t like sweet wines. During the summer, they have live music and a food truck on Sunday afternoons and a classic car show in August.
