Hiking
Yankee Jim’s road is in the canyon that our property overlooks. It is a short drive from our house. Could be a great mountain bike ride for those adventurous and prepared. Yankee Jim’s Road is unpaved most of the way so it is a slow and windy drive to the river and bridge. Parking lot area is limited, but parking along the road is available on both sides of the bridge. The beach areas are rocky so plan accordingly. There are some hiking trails near the bridge. Fires and BBQ’s are not allowed. Cell signal is spotty at best. It is a beautiful drive along a creek with seasonal waterfalls and beautiful canyon views. Bring a camera, a picnic and some towels and enjoy a beautiful day in nature! Also there is a $10 fee for day use, cash only and it is self service.

In the summer Rollins Lake is a super popular place in Colfax. I’ve added the boat rental place which could make for a super fun day on the lake. There are also some beach access areas, the beaches are not the greatest in my opinion but if it is hot, it will do. I would recommend bringing an umbrella if you plan to hang at the beach. If you would like to borrow ours just ask. Also, definitely no white towels as it is that red dirt. Water shoes highly recommended. There are also some awesome walking and hiking trails. There is a nice paved walk up to the dam and some FREE parking in that area. If you plan to make a day of it and do the beach thing there are 2 areas that also offer camping. There are no fires in the summer so if you don’t make sandwiches at home you could get some deli sandwiches at the MarVal grocery store on your way. There is also a Subway along the route oh and a Beach Hut Deli. Man, Colfax has all the sandwich options! If you need and ice chest, chairs also just let us know.

Downtown Auburn is super cute and has some great shops, restaurants and historical places of interest. We enjoy going up the steps to the courthouse, eating at one of the great restaurants and checking out the shops. Auburn Ale House is a great place to have a meal and it is very popular.

TJ’s is one of the restaurants in Colfax. Food and service are good. If you are looking for a decent diner for a meal that is sure to leave you stuffed this is a good choice. We visit often.

13500 Lincoln WayThis is a great dinner place close by. Dare I say the best, close by. So far we have only gone once during the summer and sat on the open air patio. It is small and has the inside, a completely covered patio and then the open air patio. The place is popular so reservations are needed or highly recommended. It is in Meadow Vista, which is so adorable. While you are over there you may check out their Holiday Market to pick up some things. The whole town is super cute and quaint. At night there are several places that have white string lights and it is just lovely.

The prices are super reasonable. They have a FB page where they often post specials or you can just go in and see what they have. It is counter service and they bring your food to you after you order at the counter.

They have some local IPA beers out of Grass Valley brewery that are really great is you like IPA’s. Their salads are also amazing! We ordered a house salad and the it come perfectly tossed in a balsamic vinegarette with Gorgonzola. Yum!

This is a great little spot with more gourmet pizza. All pizzas are 12 inches and wood fired. The Quattro Formagio was our favorite on a recent visit. Highly recommend if you like cheese and mushrooms. They have a great selection of beer, wine, and other drink options. They have some local IPA beers out of Grass Valley brewery that are really great is you like IPA’s. Their salads are also amazing! We ordered a house salad and the it come perfectly tossed in a balsamic vinegarette with Gorgonzola. Yum!

I got the cole verde plate and enjoyed it. We also ordered fish tacos and they were grilled sea bass. This restaurant also runs a food truck.

Beautiful restaurant in the adorable historic town of Nevada City. A 35 minute drive over to this adorable gold rush era town with lots of cute and eclectic shops is a nice way to spend a few hours while staying with us.

This place has THE BEST pizza and vibe! It is small and very popular, so you will have to wait a while if you are there during the height of the dinner rush. The front is more bar/high top - great for having a drink while you wait for a table. You may be able to get food over there as well. The crust is sour dough, the pizzas are creative and I have just loved everything I’ve had there, great salads as well. This area of Auburn is adorable and has a very hipster vibe- lots of cute and interesting shops. LOVE the food and the neighborhood. Highly recommend!

They have over 600 products for sale - great gifts or just fun things to do. You must visit just to see for yourself the creativity and amazing stuff they have. The shop is beautiful and they also offer classes and opportunities for kids to learn CAD. Highly recommend!

They have a line of seasonings that they sell that are supposed to be really good and are great gifts for those who love to cook or for yourself. I just bought some for the first time and haven’t tried it yet. It is worth a visit and walkable from Main Street.

Every time I go in here I find something. They have a huge book selection, they sometimes have snow toys, the seasonal decor items change often and I’ve found some great stuff in that area. It is like a real treasure hunt in there.

This shop is now in the old train depot building and they specialize in used women’s clothing. The owner does a great job of picking items and curating the store based on the season. Definitely worth checking out.

Fun for the whole family! This is a nice bowling alley inside, good food and drinks. Updated interiors, nice shoes (they really are newer than most places I've bowled in the last few years). They have a pool hall area and a pretty big arcade area.

Welcome to Colfax
All the shopping and restaurants of Colfax are about 10 minute drive east. You will find the Old Downtown area as well as the grocery store, MarVal and a few restaurants. There is a convenience store that has a decent selection of items right when you get off 80 at Weimar Cross Road. The real reason people come here is the outdoors! We have the American River, Bear River and Rollins Lake all major natural attractions. We moved to Colfax in spring of 2022 and are working on exploring all of the cool places to visit. We hope you enjoy!
