Lovely 14th Century fortified town -- the first in France. Worth visiting the fortifications and walking the streets.
Lovely town in the Pyrenees foothills. Besides the famous Catholic attractions (St Bernadette), there is a wonderful castle in the town center with great views and an interesting tour/museum. Also there is a funicular railway with incredible views of the city and the Pyrenees.

Only 10 minutes or so from the house is this internment camp memorial -- it was used both to intern Spaniards fleeing the Civil War in the 1930s, as well as Jews and others during the Vichy regime. There is an educational video at the entrance, and signposts throughout the walk -- a place to spend a very sobering couple of hours learning -- or being reminded of -- 20th century history.
