A bar dedicated to Johnny Cash. Renovated by a condo developer but, miraculously, every bit as cool as it's always been. Excellent jukebox and a great place to spot Quentin Tarantino.

The fanciest, best restaurant in town for thirty years. Get a drink at the plush, blue-velvet-upholstered bar for an easier (and cheaper) option. Bonus Benz & driver on-hand for the "over-served".

The only soda fountain still left in Austin, this is an old Austin gem rarely frequented by anyone other than locals. The burgers are delicious, but I'm partial to a grilled cheese and a banana shake.

The oldest spring-fed pool in Austin is cool and refreshing year-round. I highly recommend going early in the morning for a dip to start the day.

There's a pool here and some tennis courts. Sadly, the hours are kind of hard to figure out, as they change often. But it's a short walk, so dropping by is recommended.
