Food Scene

La Dogana in Valiano is a restaurant/wine bar with a beautiful view on the vineyards and winery belonging to the same family, in the Montepulciano area. Their Vin Santo is one of our favourites. Great also for a quick alfresco lunch.

In an unlikely location on the main road between Castiglione and Chiusi, Michele's large patisserie cum snack bar is a favourite among locals and visitors alike. Their Neapolitan chef makes the best rum babà's ever, and their torta al formaggio (an Easter specialty which is fact made all year round) is also very good. They are open all day and a good place for savoury as well as sweet snacks.

Arts & Culture

The walled village on the lake shore is a well preserved, and the castle with a triangular tower right on the tip of the peninsula is quite unique. In the summer there is an open air cinema in the medieval walled "arena", which is quite a setting!

Cortona is one of the most beautiful Medieval hilltop villages, dating back to Etruscan times. Just enjoy strolling around, but be sure not to miss the small Museo Diocesano, with amazing pieces by Luca Signorelli and Beato Angelico, including his masterpiece, the Annunciazione.
