Museum of Beer. Saku Brewhouse and the Museum of Beer opened their doors on June 18, 2003. The Museum of Beer and the pub are situated in the renovated historical three-storey building of the brewhouse that was built in the beginning of the 20th century on the bank of river Vääna, where brew was made from 1909 up to year 1992.
1820 – Birth of Saku Brewery After the abolition of serfage in the province of Estonia in 1816, landlords started to establish industrial companies at the manors. The most important ones were distilleries and breweries. The birthday of Saku Brewery is considered to be 1820, when the owner of Saku manor, German earl Karl Friedrich Rehbinder, also decided to establish a brewery at his manor. It has been proven with documentary evidence that the first production period at the Saku beer house was in October 1820. Karl Friedrich von Rehbinder was born in 1764 as the son of Otto Magnus von Rehbinder (1727–1792), Chamberlain and secret advisor of Saxon-Weimar, and Sophie Katharina Dorothea von der Pahleni (1737–1768). In addition to Saku manor, his father also owned the manors of Udriku, Imastu, Polli, Liigvalla and Vanamõisa.

Parks & Nature

The Witch's Well in Tuhala. The Witch’s Well, as it is called, is a peculiar attraction in the Estonian village of Tuhala. The well for the most time appears normal. But after a heavy downpour, it begins to spout water and floods the entire area – an occurrence the local people attributes to the misdoings of witches. According to legend, the witches of Tuhala gather in the sauna underground and beats each other vigorously with birch branches, oblivious to the commotion they create on the surface. The truth is, the well happens to be placed just over an underground river. After rain water floods the river, water pressure builds to the point that it shoots up out of the well, usually for a few days. The well is only 2.5 m deep, but under pressure it can spurt water up to half a meter. It is said that more than 100 liters of water can flow out every second. The well doesn’t “boil over” after every heavy rain. The last time it did was in April 2010, and before that in 2008 after a period a three years. And when it does, tourist all over Estonia come to witness it.
