Food Scene

Cute convenient Italian restaurant a couple of blocks away from the house. There is outdoor seating in the backyard, and they are one of the few open for lunch. Great for dinner as well.

Good place for brunch on Saturday and Sunday, but only if you can manage to beat the crowd and get there at 11am when they open. It's located just around the corner. Delicious southern food... very brooklyn vibe. I love the chicken sausage omelette and crab cake sandwich.

My go-to for quick food items. They are open 24/7 and you can get quick meals like a salad, wrap, sandwich. Great for grabbing yogurts or other things for the fridge.

Drinks & Nightlife

Cozy and super casual jazz bar around the corner. It doesn't get any better than this. They have crafted cocktails, live music every night except for Sunday. Check their website for list of artists playing. No entrance fee, just donation collection during the set (suggested $10)

Cool trendy lounge with great DJs most nights. Casablanca is only 3 blocks away, no dress code. Cash only bar with delicious cocktails. Great scene, casual but a little edgy. Gets a little crowded after 11pm. Remember your ID!

Speakeasy in lower Manhattan located inside of a Korean/Japanese restaurant called Yokocho (which I love too by the way). If you're adventurous, you could eat first and then hit Angel Share before you leave. The restaurant opens at 4pm so I suggest a 7pm dinner and then drinks after. Angel Share is small and gets crowded.

Sightseeing

I haven't been here yet, but I hear it's amazing. Purchase tickets online and reserve your date. https://oneworldobservatory.com/experience It's super close to the house. Just take the A or C train 20 minutes to Fulton Street and walk over. While in that area, you can see the New York Stock Exchange, Ground Zero Memorial, or go shopping at Century 21 Department store!

Visit this park along the water, right under the Brooklyn Bridge. There is a carousel for kids and grass for picnicking. You can also walk over the Brooklyn Bridge (very cool) over to Manhattan.

If you've never been to Times Square, it's something to see! I would go there close to dusk and hang out for the night. There are tons of stores and restaurants.. and people. Just take the A train to 42nd Street Times Square

Essentials

You can drop off laundry and pick up the following day, or do your laundry yourself. It's small, so go early and dress lightly:) they will give you quarters to operate the machines (no credit cards)... but there is an ATM across the street from the laundromat in case you need cash!

This is pretty close to the subway station so easy to stop in. Yes, everything here is actually $1. It's the cheaper way to grab a few things like toothpaste, lotion, snacks, and even sunglasses. There isn't a big store around the area for essentials.. so you would otherwise need to pick those things up when you go to Manhattan.

This is the closest "real" grocery store close by. It's not huge but it's not bad. For big grocery shopping, I recommend either FoodTown (also listed) or peapod.com for next day delivery.

Getting Around

To get to the subway, go right when you leave the house. The very next corner is Stuyvesant. Make a right on Stuyvesant. Walk straight 4 blocks down Stuyvesant and you will come upon a little park. Walk into the park along the path and you will see a green globe and a staircase where the subway is. When you go down the stairs, you must use the machines to purchase a MetroCard. Each ride is $2.75 per person. If you are staying a week, you can purchase the 1 week unlimited card for $32. Each person must purchase one... an unlimited card cannot be used repeatedly for multiple people. Be sure to go to the "Manhattan" side. Take the A for express (recommended) or the C for local.
