Yet another nature spot tucked away in St. James City off Pine Island is this idyllic preserve. You might spot an eagle or two, and certainly a variety of other local wildlife.
Quiet and relaxing, hiking and walking, explore nature, bird watching and other animals. Dogs welcome!
Pine Island gem! Galt Preserve is a habitat restoration project on 265 acres that is successfully supporting native plants, birds and animals on southern Pine Island. Often a good place to see Florida butterflies. Galt features 2.5 miles of hiking trails and boardwalks, a kayak and canoe launch, fishing pier, picnic pavilions, restroom and a paved parking area. The preserve consists of 12 plant communities, including mangrove swamp and mesic flatwoods. The preserve is also home to a variety of bird and animal species, including bald eagle, bobcat and American alligator. Located just south of the much smaller Pine Island Flatwoods Preserve.
