Newcastle's Castle and The Black Gate are a great sight to visit if you want to get a sense of the diverse and layered history of the city. Amazing panoramic views from the top of the Castle and a thorough exhibition of the history of the area to be found in The Black Gate. We reccomend taking a walk from there down to the quayside along one of Newcastle's ancient stairways such as Dog Bank.
