Saint savior in Chora / Kariye Musesi This church from the Byzantine era is small in size but impressive because of the richness of its interior and particularly for its mosaics . It was converted into a mosque by the Ottomans in 1511 and is now a museum. We absolutely recommend you visiting this museum as each tile has its own little story. Open every day except Wednesday from 9am to 16.30pm. Address: Kariye Müzesi, Eyüp, Kariye Cami Sokak No:26, İstanbul – Avrupa, Türkiye

Chora means "country" in Greek and this beautiful Church (originally called the Church of St Saviour of Chora) lies just outside old Constantinople's city walls.

The Chora Church (Turkish Kariye Müzesi, Camii yahut Kilisesi — variously the Chora Museum, Mosque or Church) is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of a Byzantine church. The church is situated in the western, Erdinekapı district of İstanbul. In the 16th century, the church was converted into a mosque by the Ottomon rulers, and it became a secularised museum in 1948. The interior of the building is covered with fine mosaics and frescoes.
