Midtown has changed drastically with revitalization, but this African-American-owned bookstore has been a constant, serving the neighborhood since 2002. The whole front of the store is glass, so it’s well-lit, but the best way to describe the setting is dark and dreamy, with twinkle lights. It’s starry in there. Janet Jones, the owner. She knows everything about everything, and she takes lots of time with every customer. The selection is mostly nonfiction and very Detroit-centric. She focuses on books with a connection to the city—and that includes fiction, too.

Local bookstore. A selection of local books, books on the African-American experience and more. You might get the chance to chat with the owner, a wonderful woman who will help you find what you need!
