There are markets. And then there are Markets! The market in Olhao is an amazing mix of hustle, bustle, smells and just loads of amazingness! You want to come here on a Saturday because that is when the market is in full bloom. This is where the locals buy their groceries and fresh fish. Each and everyone is equipped with a trolley. It is time to do some serious shopping. And this is the place where it’s all going to happen. And even if there is a lot of people there – this is still a very well organized market.

Because Olhão is known for being a fishing town, it is a must to visit our lovely historic fish market for some local seafood & fresh fruits. You can then stop next door to one of our cafés for a nice espresso or galão (a cup of 1/2 coffee 1/2 milk) with a fresh pastry. We recommend getting our favorite pastry, pastel de nata, which is one of Portugal's most traditional and delicious pastries, a thick, flaky, sweet, (did I mention delicious?) custard tart.
