If you plan on drinking in Austin, everyone should have one wild night on 6th Street. There are 3 parts to 6th street: East 6th which features many of the hip, craft and small batch cocktails, eclectic music and arts scenes that the areas has become known for. West 6th is commonly known as the area for the young professionals, and can be rowdy, but also incredibly fun, with more clubs and price friendly bars than East. Finally, there's the area affectionately known as "Dirty 6th" where the most rowdy, New Orleans during Mardi Gras style partying occurs. This is the area between Congress and Highway 35 that is shut down to driving traffic, and opened up for foot traffic most nights of the week. It features about a mile of bars, clubs, and music venues with rooftop drinking and hidden weirdness around every corner.

One of the most famous names in Austin music, Antone's has returned as one of the best venues in the city for rock, blues, and R&B. It doesn't hurt that it's partially owned by local music favorite Gary Clark Jr. who regularly shows at the venue.

Probably my favorite restaurant in Austin. This active butcher shop cuts its meat in house, and even makes incredible dishes with the leftovers! They also have one of the best beer and wine lists I've ever seen, both local, hard to find, and international, all at a reasonable price.

There's alot of incredible BBQ in Austin, but few are located in such a historic and scenic location. Located is one of the cities older buildings (it used to be a general store back in the mid 1800s) and featuring a diverse menu of incredible BBQ (the brisket is to die for) and unique fare like smoked banana creme pudding this restaurant is a must for anyone looking for a laid back BBQ spot outside of a food truck or takeaway joint.

A public pool fed by an underground spring! This massive outdoor public pool is one of Austin's most iconic public spaces, with beautiful, clean, clear blue water fed from an underground spring hidden in a cave a the bottom of the pool. Even though it is guarded by lifeguards and even includes a diving board, this is a living pool complete with underwater grasses, fish, and even an endangered blind salamander that lives in the deepest parts of the pool. Remember to bring cash, because entrance to the pool costs about 3 to 5 dollars (cash only).

Getting Around

How I get to work every day. I recommend going online and getting the weekender pass in advance. You can pick up and drop off the bikes all over the city, and once you pay for your 3 days, you never have to pay again, the stations will simply recognize your card and off you go! (cost for the weekender pass are about $15 dollars)
