Artist’s tour of the Fillmore, the Harlem of the West

Take an interactive tour of the Fillmore District, a center for Black culture, music, and activism in San Francisco since the 1940s, when the neighborhood became known as the “Harlem of the West.” As we visit historic landmarks and thriving businesses, I encourage you to take photos that tell the story of the Fillmore. • We’ll meet at Honey Art Studio’s “Harlem of the West” exhibit, where you’ll step into a 1950s-inspired jazz lounge before embarking on our tour. • Together, we’ll visit historic sites such as the Black Panthers’ former headquarters, where you’ll learn about the Fillmore’s legacy of activism and resilience, and Marcus Books, a Black-owned bookstore that became a hub for African American literature (it has since closed, the flagship store is still open in Oakland). • We'll also meet business owners who are carrying on the Fillmore's spirit of creativity and perseverance. - Enjoy sample bites from our local Soul Food restaurants At the end of the tour, we’ll share photos and reflections. Not only will you leave with a stronger connection to the community’s enduring spirit, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the Fillmore’s powerful past, present resilience, and cultural legacy.

Get up close and personal with books, posters, sketches, and typeface specimens especially chosen for Airbnb visitors, before creating a zine (or postcard) of your very own with the help of the Letterform Archive’s expert staff. • Learn about San Francisco’s role in shaping design history, from its counterculture movements and psychedelic posters to the beginnings of the design stages for the Bay Area’s most recognizable tech brands. • Explore a carefully curated selection of posters, type specimens, graffiti zines, and local design artifacts from Letterform Archive’s cherished collection that exemplify San Francisco’s unique brand of design. An experienced archivist will lead the interactive tour, encouraging you to handle the material, ask questions, and get inspired. • Create your very own eight-page zine from a single sheet of paper in a one-and-a-half-hour workshop where we’ll help you experiment with collage, stamping, tracing, and assembling your creation using materials sourced from the Archive’s collection. • If you choose the option of creating postcards instead of a zine, we'll even mail these out for you! We’ll wrap up with a share-out session, where you can showcase your zine or postcard, exchange ideas, and discuss the day’s design inspirations.

Step inside one of San Francisco's iconic Painted Ladies

Step into my historic home, the Blue Painted Lady, a beautifully preserved Victorian on San Francisco’s iconic Postcard Row. Built in 1894, the house is filled with family heirlooms and offers a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse inside one of America’s most famous homes. • In the parlor, I’ll explain my family’s long history with this glorious property and San Francisco. I’ll guide you through rooms on three floors, sharing family heirlooms and the stories of those who once owned them, including a first-edition Mark Twain book. • Are you interested in architecture, film, historic preservation, or the Gold Rush? I’ll tailor your experience and share family stories and historic anecdotes accordingly. • Our tour concludes in the elegant dining room, where I’ll talk about the Painted Ladies’ significance in San Francisco and discuss the importance of preserving this iconic piece of history. You’ll leave feeling a personal connection to my home as well as to the history of San Francisco.

Skate Modernism: Thrasher Magazine's skate spot walking tour

San Francisco’s streets have long been the backdrop for some of skateboarding’s most legendary moments. On Thrasher Magazine’s This Old Tour, walk—or roll—through the architecture, history, and underground scene that made the city a global skateboarding mecca. • Begin at St. Mary’s Square to learn how the garages and ledges of this area became unexpected locations for skate tricks, before exploring iconic spots like Black Rock, California and Kearny, and Portsmouth Square to hear how sculptures and public spaces shaped the sport. • Follow the lines of legends like Tommy Guerrero, Keith Hufnagel, and Mike Carroll, and see firsthand how Financial District plazas became proving grounds for technical innovation in skateboarding. • Conclude at the Ferry Building, steps from the Embarcadero, where modern technical street skating was born. Atelier poterie à Mission

We will start with some of the interesting history of the studio space. Then I will get you situated on the wheel and show you how to properly secure your lump of clay. After the clay is secured we start the wheel spinning nice and fast. I will show you how to center the clay which is a very important (and frustrating) stage of making pottery on the wheel. After we successfully center the clay, you will explore how the clay moves and reacts to your touch. We will work to form a simple shape such as a bowl or cup. To finish off we will do some clean up of the form and remove the piece from the wheel in order to start experimenting with the next piece. You can expect to get to practice with around 6 lumps of clay (more if you are ambitious) and most people will create 2-3 pieces by the end of the session. Pieces will be professionally finished, fired, and glazed after the experience. This process takes at least 3 weeks. After the pieces are finished you can pickup in the studio or they can be shipped. Shipping costs are paid by the guest. Other things to note Come wearing clothes that you don't mind getting messy. We will provide aprons. If you have long hair plan to have a hair tie or a way to secure your hair back. Trim long nails if you are able.

Whether you are traveling solo, with your significant other, or with friends/family, it is always hard to get a spontaneous photo to truly capture the moment. Don't leave it up to a stranger on the street, let me show you some of my favorite spots around San Francisco while snapping some great shots along the way. Don't worry if you feel a little awkward in front of the camera - I am happy to give you directions! This 1.5- 2 hrs tour will show you some well-known spots plus some hidden gems around San Francisco Get ready for some fresh, Insta-ready images to make you the envy of your friends back home. You will get at least 25 high-resolution edited photos per person (usually more!). We will be taking you to the most beautiful architecture of the Palace of Fine Arts, Painted Ladies, and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Please note this is a small group tour with a maximum of 4 guests. If you wish to have a private tour or are traveling in a larger group, please contact me to arrange a custom booking. Découvrez San Francisco à bord d'un bus VW vintage

Looking for an authentic San Francisco experience? Trade the tour bus for a vintage Volkswagen bus that easily navigates the city’s less-traveled lanes from the Golden Gate to the Painted Ladies. You will be picked up at our easily accessible pickup location and driven by one of our professional guides in either Lillie or Harvey, our two fully restored vintage 1971 Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter Buses. The tour will last approximately 3 hours and you will get to see all that San Francisco has to offer including 5 photo stops. Enjoy neighborhoods such as Chinatown, North Beach, The Marina, Haight Ashbury and The Castro with photo stops at Coit Tower, Palace of Fine Arts, Fort Point (under the Golden Gate Bridge), Twin Peaks and Alamo Square. Your guide will drop you off at the same location where you were picked up. Other things to note: Bring a camera, light jacket, and a smile. We'll provide a bottle of water. Make sure to be a little early if possible so you can find the pick-up location.
