GEM Mining is always a fun thing to do. My kids got hooked and of course want to get something made out of what they found! My son’s favorite is Foscoe Mining Company

Here at the Greater Foscoe Mining Company, your experience is not only loads of fun, but educational as well. With indoor and outdoor flumes, your visit will be enjoyable rain or shine. When you’ve finished mining, their friendly staff will identify your gemstones and place them on a keepsake gemstone calendar to take with you. If you’re interested in having any of your stones cut, you can visit the jewelry store and gallery. Facets, where their experienced gem cutters can cut and polish your stones.

Kids love this! We have several gem mines in the High Country, but this is the biggest one and closest one to the cabin (maybe six to seven minutes away). Cheapest bucket size is $16 but shareable. Open every day from 9:00a-5:00p and 10:00a-4:00p in winter.
