Beautiful terrace to have afternoon tea or drinks watching the sun go down

The future isn't what it used to be but the past is almost still the present here... wisely or unwisely resisting the shifts in the demographic of Margate. If its warm enough for a drink on the terrace, have a snoop inside and dream about when everything was better (it wasn't) but still its nice to dream..... Dont expect a great drinks selection,,,,, think 19080s pubs, its all about the nostalgia. :-)

This is so worth a visit. If you get the opportunity to have a cream tea and scones, do it. It's kept a lot of its original features and is a relaxed space to be in and usually you can find good company there for a chat.

walpole bay is an edwardian hotel with a wealth of character and history, it is privately owned and the owners are passionate about its history and renovations and thier customers, it hosts a fantastic museum on the second floor, no entrance charge, sit on the extensive original verandah and have a cream tea, well worth a visit

If you get time, do book yourself for an afternoon tea at the Walpole hotel and ask to go around the hotel/ museum. Very quirky and a little scary in places...
