Working ferry on the beautiful Breede River

Until recently this pont was the only manual working pont in the country. Recently upgraded to a piloted ferry but still fun and a useful short cut to the East bank

there is a nice hotel restaurant and also nice to experience a boat on the river and to have a nice pizza at the boathouse. From there to Witsand if you want to visit.

+-1km from our River House. The 'Pont' was the last man-hauled pontoon cable ferry in South Africa but was replaced in December 2020 with the high-tech, hydraulic thrusting ferry. When you cross the river from Malgas's side, you can visit Witsand. Witsand offers great fishing, a market, a great estuary lagoon (as the Breede River flows to the ocean at Witsand), and unique cafes. You can also launch your boat at the Pont and Moore it at our jetty. En-route to the Malagas Pont from the River House, you will pass a Church built in 1855. It is still operational. Malagas is engulfed in history.
