Charumati was a daughter of Indian emperor Ashoka through a concubine and the adopted daughter of his wife, Empress Asandhimitra. She was trained in nursing by her. She was married to a Nepalese prince Devapala Kshatriya in Kathmandu.[1] She is credited to have founded the monastery of Chabahil (called Charumati Vihara), which is one of the oldest Buddhist monastery of Nepal.

The stupa has attracted Buddhist monks and other pilgrims over the centuries. According to the inscriptions found within it, it was built by the Indian princess Charumati, daughter of Indian Emperor Ashoka, who was married to a Nepalese prince in Kathmandu.[2] Near the Charumati Vihara, there is a beautiful stone statue of Buddha that is a meter high
