Burgh Island inspired Agatha Christie's 'And Then There Were None' (Christie also wrote Evil Under the Sun whilst here). The Pilchard Inn has huge stone fireplaces casting a warm, orange glow. Huddle by the fire or watch the tide from one of the benches outside. And if the tide comes in while you're finishing your drink, you can return to the mainland by sea tractor!

Reached either by foot across the beach or at high tide by sea tractor, this 700 year old pub once popular with fishermen and smugglers, has wonderful views and is an atmospheric spot to stop for a pint of Pilchard Ale and a baguette. Owned by the Burgh Island hotel, there is also a cafe on the beach level.

Walk or paddle across at low tide from Bigbury and enjoy a meal and a drink on Burgh Island. The setting is stunning, used, along with the famous Burgh Island Hotel, as a setting for an Agatha Christie film, Evil Under The Sun.
